How do you manipulate an item you have grabbed?

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 7:58 am

On PC.

In Fallout 3 you could "grab" a nuka-cola by the top of the bottle. That would let you put in down right side up.

In Fallout 4 if I try to "grab" a bottle it seems to default to the center of the object. So when I put the bottle down it is always on its side.

I'm just trying to spruce Home Plate up a bit for Piper.

Spoiler

Also today for the first time I met Lynda Carter.

Piper didn't like that.

Unfortunately this has been impossible in Skyrim and Fallout 4 thus far, but with the new beta patch it's finally been enabled. From the patch notes:

  • Added ability to rotate an object you are holding with left/right triggers and pressing down on left thumbstick lets you switch the rotating axis

On PC it's the left and right mouse buttons, not sure how to change axis though. If you're on PC you can opt into the beta patch from Steam settings, otherwise you'll have to wait until the patch comes out of beta and goes live for everybody.

Oh hey - don't forget that items like that can be picked up and place in Workshop mode, which will automatically place them upright.

It can't help with the weird bug of items falling through furniture and floors, unfortunately, but at least it sorts orientation.

I wasn't aware of that. I'll give it a try.

Thanks.

Edit: That works.

I love this community. The answer was right in my face.
