Placing items on shelvestables?

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 4:13 am

I try to do this at my houses I make for myself, and find using build mode easiest to place some items (like bottles) on shelves. But usually after I leave and come back, I found that the item has sunk down into the table or shelf. It seems picking up the shelf and then cancelling in build mode pulls the bottle I sat on it back up on top, but that's annoying every time. Is there a way anyone knows to keep stuff from sinking down into surfaces? I'd really love to display my model collection, but they all keep disappearing down inside my dresser :S

It works for some and does not work for others. For me items which I place in build mode sink. Even if I then pick them up in normal mode and place. However items which I place in normal mode only stay. On PC.

My wild guess is that it is physic engine related and my be somehow related to the hardware or 3rd party software your computer is using.

Build mode makes it easier to place, but more unstable to stay.

Placing by 'grab' is (much) harder, but is more stable.

I built metal shelves in Red Rocket and then used grab to display some of the special guns, they all sank into the floor. This is on a PC, I suppose its a way to keep modders busy fixing things in the game.

I am beginning to think Bethesda hates us. Gives us lovely things but we cannot display them. (half joking, sarcasm, maybe...)

Doesn't matter what I do, items I hand place, either via grab, or, workshop mode, do NOT stay where I put them. They fall thru surfaces, usually to the next surface, or, just completely disappear. Doesn't matter what I set them on either, shelves, desks, tables, etc. The only things that stay put are things I put IN containers..... haven't lost anything out of a container yet......

They fall through the ground eventually. This happened to me as well when I started to play. Strange things is, that it stopped and now all of sudden, things stay where I put them. Given I do it in normal grab mode.

At this point you really need a mod called OCDecorator to make stuff stay on tables.

Also Precision Placement unfortunately "PnP" isn't going to be able to be on Xbox1 or PS4 due to using 3rd party app.

But I could see OCD being on the console real soon after they launch mods for consoles probably when the GECK gets released.

The thing is BSG might have an answer for placement of objects for the vanilla game for those cool decoration mods, at least I thought I saw them put in some more stuff on settlements in the new Beta Patch.

Something about controlling rotation along 2 more axis, which would mean no limits to how you rotate an object now, er in the future when patch is out of Beta.

If they then make it so that all objects placed via workshop menu are say "static" and maybe allow "clipping"

Well that would really make a lot of ppl real happy wouldn't it.

One big thing I'd like to see is a way to say copy my settlement into an ESP and then give that to someone else so that they can play with some of the really cool places I have made in their own game with their own character.

I came back to my main base once to see a settler wielding one of my legendaries that I keep in crates in my workshop area. I was not happy about that.

I've had the magazines all over the floor issue, plus the sinking/disappearing/wandering around by themselves stuff. That last one I placed a Blast Radius game on a shelf, it disappeared, and four days later turned up in my Brahmin pen about four houses away from my digs.

Seriously, they gave me a 200+ year old house cleaning Mr Handy, and yet they are still forcing me to live like a bachelor?

I was overloaded as hell when I looted Red Rocket in my first hours, so I threw out lots of stuff and went to Sanctuary to store the rest. 5 mins later I was back at RR to watch half of the stuff being stuck in the garage ground. Had to push it out of the floor using some flat item, took about 15 mins. So that was the first big "meh, Bethesda"-moment and I decided not to try to display anything anywhere. One of the biggest issues for what, 8 years? :glare:

Yes it's engine related and nothing to do about hardware or 3rd party software. It's on Xbox and PS as well. This is the same thing from Skyrim. Can't remember if Oblivion and Fallout 3 had these problems or on a lesser scale. Another thing to be proud of eh Todd? :P

I wanted to place all my magazines on a shelf, but no dice. I couldn't place anything on a shelf. So I deleted it to never look back.

I LOVED doing this in all their other games and just had to give up in Fallout. We'll just have to wait until they patch in a fix.

Just give up now seriously. It's not worth the trouble or the hair loss.

Hmmm actually just found the steam beta patch notes for the new update and there is a new added feature to rotate items you are holding. Could this be an end to our decorating woes?! :ahhh:

Then how do you explain that some players have this problem and others does not? Main program itself is the same, at last for PC users. Therefore it should behave the same.

I constructed two shelves in Home Plate. On one I put different varieties of Nuka-Colas. On the other I put different bottles of booze. The first time I returned home the booze had fallen and was stuck 1/2 through the shelf. The next time I returned the booze was on the floor. The Nuka-Colas are still right where I had placed them on the shelf.

Just was going to post about this. The beta patch has new features that should allow for hand placing items a lot less tedious. Those not into beta just need to wait for the release. Patch notes say nothing about it, but we can cross our fingers to see if the fall through bug has been addressed as well.

if you're on the PC, there's a mod on the Nexus which currently fixes this issue.
