Preston the thief

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 2:59 am

So I've heard of some settlers and companions stealing power armor but I didn't know the annoying a**hat Preston Garvey would be capable of stealing my Alien Blaster and ammo that I had stored in a container by the work station. That was the only item out of the few things I had placed in there that was missing...

That should teach you not to store your guns and ammo in the same container. Why are you storing your ammo anyway?

All the companions will grab anything they can during an attack.
I had piper grab a power armor suit and a gatling laser once.

She got out of the power armor after the attack, but I had to retrieve the gatling laser from her.
Shooting the thing with no fusion cores too. Weird.

Inventory clutter? I routinely lay off various items I don't need for this reason, even if they have zero weight.

When in combat, any humanoid NPC (settlers, raiders, companions, etc...) can grab weapons around (they seem to compare it to one they already have), including inside containers and on dead bodies, given they have ammo for it or there is ammo in container/body with the gun. They seems to be unable to grab weapon and ammo separately. They also can enter power armor given it have fusion core. Again, they are not smart enough to pick fusion core elsewhere and then use it on power armor.

So as long as you keep weapons and ammo and power armor and fusion cores separate, they should be safe.

So..if I make two containers, one with the AlienBlaster and one with the ammo, and fusion cores and whatever else ammo.

I'm ok?

My question is: Why do you care? Obviously, if it's stored, you're not using it.

My people steal things all the time. I don't care. It's not like I'm using that Legendary Wounding 4 MIssile Launcher (I tricked out) and the 400 odd missiles I had left in a footlocker at Hangman's.

It was Strong btw (I'd forgotten to give him anything but a board to use). Needless to say, it was quite a mess. He's been running around the neighborhood on his patrols using it every since. Guy has got pin-point aim and, apparently, really, really hates other Supers.

Create a small building above ground level. Make it where you have to jump up to get in it. Place safe(s) in said building. Store valuables in safe(s).

Are y'all collectors or something? I have so much useless "Legendary" and "Unique" crap now that I've just started dropping it in the Workbenches wherever I'm at and forgetting about it.

Wow, some negative comments. I don't care, just thought it was funny that he stole it. I have a melee only build in survival mode, I sell any ammo I pick up (except cell for one companion) I was saving this gun for a different companion, I already accidentally sold the ammo once before by accident so I took it out of my inventory. So they only steal guns if there is also ammo in there with it? Because I have other containers (yes, I do collect on my other main build) and nothing has been stolen...that I'm aware of.

Don't store ammo or store it in the workbench.

Lol I have an organaized storage in my old house. I even go as far as removing mods from armor I collect to make it easier to find a full suit of armor with a glance and reattach as needed. I would do the same with weapons I collect but that is too expensive to mod them back to a basic form. Mods just go into the workbench though. Excess armor and weapons get recycled.

Yes, you should be. Except if NPC already have ammo which he needs. But that's probably impossible with alien blaster.

I once saw Garvey walking around in my PA and he wasn't even a follower! Next time ask nicely and I'll reconsider. You bastard.
