Most attacked settlement?

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 12:21 am

Hey there,

this is probably the opposite of what most people want to know, but which are the most attacked settlements?
Like, does Somerville Place get attacked more than Red Rocket, and if so, which is the single most attacked settlement?
Also, is there sense to it? Will places closer to the south east get attacked by bigger monsters than places closer to the north west?

Thanks!

There was a Mirelurk Queen spawned at my one settlement attack down south in the marshes.

Yeah, I'd already killed it before too so it seems the attack spawns another

That's cool.

The reason I ask in the first place is that I love setting up effective and realistic defenses for realistic villages, and it svcks to have built a perfect defense only to have 1 buck-naked raider wander into a turret once a year.

You could try "Egret Tours Marina". There is a Bridge close to it with a random Encounter and they attack sometimes the Settlement. They Respawn very fast, but dont expect Wonder.

The wiki says Somerville Place gets attacked more often than any other settlement, but otherwise I can't find anything on whether certain areas face more attacks than others.

I saved a game once just before a notification occurred.

It was Spectacle Island.

Out of curiosity I kept reloading the game and each time the attack occurred the foes were different.

Mutants or deathclaw or raiders or gunners attacked so perhaps it's a lottery who the attackers will be.

As far as more prone to attack.

Well in my game there are some that have never been attacked.

The rest get attacked on a rotational basis, usually two notifications in close succession.

Somerville, Jamaica, Croup, the Lighthouse, Coastal cottage get attacked most.

The drive-in, warwick Farm, abernathy, red rocket, spectacle and the others get regular attention.

The outpost and sunshine tidings never attacked except one time when i bought a fourth cow for Sunshine and the game decided they wanted to kill the cow just before delivery.

I was walking the cow home and all of a sudden the cow was transported way in front of me, to the other side of the nearby bridge with a magically spawned deathclaw closing in on it.

I had to sprint and shoot the Deathclaw before it swiped the cow with a fraction of a second to spare.

The game likes to do things like that.

Another time i bought a cow and it walked 10 paces before some mutants gave it the chop.

Murkwater gets attacked a bit.

One time the game dropped 2 high level sentry bots but one got bogged.

i think with somerville one spawn point seems to be right next to the building so my own defences do a bit of collateral damage.

Egret gets the occasional bridge attack but there is a close by random spawn point that can attack the provisioners and follow them to the settlement.

On the other side there is always radstag setting off the alarms.

Murkwater Construction Site spawns a Queen Mirelurk every single time i visit. It is definitely an auto-spawn, as I tested it for five sequential visits.

The Mirelurk is killed pretty swiftly regardless of whether i shoot at it or not (fifteen turrets can hit where it spawns), and the loot on its body could be worth "farming" as there is a lot of it. Unfortunately, however, the Mirelurk always manages - despite being insta-killed - to destroy my industrial water purifiers and generators. Hence the loot value is outweighed by the repair bill.

it's probably different for different people.

Murkwater gives me a rotation of foes, gunners, raiders, mutants, sentry bots.

Reading the settlement scripts I cannot find anything that indicates that attack probabilities are dependent on the location. The only factors that influence settlement attack probabilities are defence, number of settlers, food/water production and food/water in the settlement inventory.

When some locations are apparently attacked more often then it is not because of settlement attacks but because of random encounters that just happen to spawn right next to a settlement, or enemies that are just wandering around.

In the current version of Fallout (haven't tried the beta yet) the settlement attack spawn markers are not realistically placed at all. E.g. in Sanctuary there is not much use in protecting the bridge, because the enemies in a settlement attack will spawn in the south-west corner of the island.

Good example for a location that apparently gets attacked more because of random encounters and enemies coming from the glowing sea.

Yes, which enemies are attacking a settlement in a settlement attack is random.

This might change after the next patch as there are numerous fixes to do with settlement mechanics.

A map of each settlement showing the spawn markers would be invaluable. :goodjob:

I was thinking about this, but it is a lot of work and I would spoiler myself as I have not visited all settlements yet. What I could try is to write a FO4Edit script that extracts the spawn points coordinates. Will investigate this.

Yeah, maps of each settlement would be a great help when planning builds in general.

That would be absolutely awesome if possible. Thanks! Also If it's not possible on the forum, I'm sure the Fallout wiki would be greatly appreciative if you were to allow permission for it to use them.

I have three bigger settlements, Castle, Starlight DriveIn and Somerville Place. Never had I any attack onto one of these settlements till now, lvl 51 (although at the Castle defense is much smaller than water + food, at the other places it is on par). So I cannot confirm that Somerville Place is attacked most often. I had most attacks at Overland, a small location with 4 settlers, all attacks were very weak. I had an attack on Finch Farm involving 10 supermutants that made me sweat.

I had one attack notification for that house at the lake with the bugs (forgot the name) with 5 settlers and a purifier, which failed because I decided I had better to do. When I finally arrived nothing was destroyed, no one was killed (I play with mortal settlers mod). Maybe it had repaired itself?

I think I found a clue about this. I noticed that when I built to the edgs of build border, spawns would occur inside that settlement. when I kept the build tighter allowing for plenty of room between my walls\defenses and the build border, I did not have spawns inside my defenses.

This is very noticeable at Abernathy and Sanctuary where you have more room to accomplish this.

But places like Hangman, it is nearly impossible as the limit is already set with existing walls on the edge of build border.

I am running the Beta on my PC now and it seems to have improved, but I have not tried with previous character with full Commonwealth of settlements built up. The results I have seen thus far are with a handful of places and no faction affiliations.

Ten Pines. Without a doubt. Ten Pines. Others get attacked, but only they get attacked EVERY day. It's getting to the point where I just want to ignore them and hope for the best.

It must be them. Maybe we had the Corvega Raiders. They weren't attacking for resources. They were attacking because the folks at Ten PIanes are just a pair of asshats.

When I first discovered Mirkwater, I led the queen down the road to Wilson Atomatoys factory and let her kill most of the super mutants in and around the place. lol Anyway, I farmed her a few times that was until I opened the workshop, that's when she stopped spawning. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I found it odd.

true, but no issue for me, i built a huge settlement on these shack foundations and the queen gets basically spawned in them, cant move and gets shredded by my settlers

i also get a lot of attacks there.... i have the theorie that settlements with few structures / walls and/or no defenses on the right side where the enemy attacks from get attacked more often

i had constant attacks in costal cottage cause all my defenses where on the other side of the settlement, i changed that and built more walls - no attacks since
