I have leg. pieces in just about every armor, except heavy combat armor. Even researched this myself a few times to see if anyone else found something, and sadly the answer is no. =(

I found a legendary heavy combat armor chest with the bolstering effect at level 45 or so. Therefore, it is definitely possible but totally random for legendary enemies to drop one.

The heavy affix can be hidden under other affixes, if it has two of them. So, if you find a pocketed shadowed (heavy) combat armour, the heavy affix will not show, as only two are shown, and mods take precedence over quality of said armour.

My understanding is that Legendary Heavy Combat Armor has a similar issue, but you can't remove the Legendary mod, so that may cover up the fact that the item in question uses Heavy Combat Armor as a base. The only ways to tell would be to either equip the item and check it's visuals, or to take a look at it's stats and compare them to a normal Heavy Combat Armor Chest Piece. Just be aware that the stats on a Legendary Heavy Combat Armor Chest Piece aren't going to match exactly if you remove the mods; the Legendary Armor mods give a slight boost to the item's resistances. Visuals are probably going to be the most reliable way to tell what base item the thing is using.

If you strip the armour piece of mods, it will show if it is indeed a heavy variant. Sure you can't strip the legendary affix, but other mods on it are removable.

As my example above, if you find a pocketed shadowed combat armour, and strip the pocketed and shadowed, it will instead read Heavy combat armour.

So instead of saluaging "just" combat armour, you may by accident, salvage a heavy variant.

I usually store all combat armour, and strips them in huge chuncks, and found several heavy pieces that was just labeled as normal combat armour.

Never had any Heavy Combat Armour legendary, but one metal and two leather pieces on my level 65 character. So i would say its possible, but totally random and very unlikely.

It's possible but it's rare, mainly because the standard, sturdy, and heavy variants are all random.

Meaning when using the console command to create it you can't actually specify which one you want. So you have to create as many as needed till you get a full heavy set. So I would assume what you can scavenge would be random as well, requiring even more luck to get a legendary version.

They're out there. I found a Heavy Legendary Chest piece (forget the effect) with a fiberglass mod. Twas sweet, alas, I started a new character, but I think i was in the high 40's when i got it. I think it was by the other lighthouse, south of the beached tanker ship with all the raiders on it. Happy hunting!

Nobody is talking about saluaging. You can remove mods the armour has (if any). Just as you can mod / unmod legendary weapons. But if you find a legendary armour that is not better than what you already have, you either give it to a settler or sell it, and you might sell a heavy armour without ever knowing it.

I have a couple of legendary heavy combat armor pieces (not chest pieces), but they're rare. As far as the unique combat armor pieces that you can buy, such as Destroyer's Armor, Black Ops, Commando, Overseer's, etc. are concerned, I don't believe there are any heavy variants. You can get lucky and get them in a random drop though since the legendary drop system is randomized to apply a random perk to a random weapon or piece of armor. Heavy Combat Armor by itself is already rare though, so a legendary variant is going to be even more rare.
