Themed Settlements

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 1:28 pm

Just to make my settlements more interesting (as they were all starting to look the same) I started making some with themes.

I started with Sunshine Tiding Co-Op. I kind of freaked out when I saw my first Ghoul settler. To be honest I didn’t know they could be settlers. So I started sending them all to Sunshine Tidings Co-Op, which to open up I had to clear some ghouls anyway. I’ve left the place mostly untouched as it already had beds in the houses. I did add just enough pumps for water, planted some gourds (yuck) and a few turrets. In addition to this I put all the ghoul settlers in Raider Leather gear and put sacks over their heads. (Yeah my guy is a dike to ghouls). The place looks like crap but they’re alive right?

Another is Hangman’s Alley. I wanted some Minute Man artillery in the center of the map and found this location ideal. I’ve got four settlers there, two dressed and armed as MM and manning two artillery and the other two dressed and armed as BoS and manning two guard posts. Tried to make the place look as military as possible.

Sanctuary is my Common Wealth farm. It didn’t really start that way but it just kept growing and growing in crops since the space was there. Now I’m in the process of putting all the crop assigned settlers in Farmer’s clothes and green rag hats.

Was wondering if anyone else made some themed settlements and what they are. (Looking for ideas really).

I've got a pretty successful chain of "Brotherhood Bar & Grill" restaurants, serving the commonwealths finest meats!

I try to make things look like a functioning town. With Sanctuary I wanted to use as much of the existing structures as possible. Each house has its own dedicated shop at the front of the driveway with shelves and items behind it and inside. I put a bunch of beds with the doctors shop and set it up like a makeshift hospital. The first foundation after the bridge has the trader post with a small structure and bar so the trader and guards are usually eating or hanging out on the couch when I check it out.

The Castle for me has 41 settlers, so I had to make a massive 5 story building around the central radio tower to house everyone. Each section inside the walls is a different shop with two of the larger rooms as bunkhouses and the third as a restaurant. I also restocked the armory so it would look cool. Three suits of power armor with Minutemen paint, a few miniguns, laser muskets with ammo, and a couple more work benches.

I try to equip everyone who has a specific job with something that will help associate them with it. Armor vendors get military fatigues and a helmet, weapon vendor gets road leathers, bartenders get tuxedos, clothing vendors and doctors get suits or dresses, guards get combat armor and laser rifles.

Its a shame. I have so much fun playing nuclear fallout sims, I just wish it had more impact and relevance in the game itself.

I made Sunshine Tiding Co-op my base, I turned the kitchen building (where all the picnic tables are) into my living quarters and built a patio just outside the front door complete with lawn furniture and all. I added power to all the houses including the outhouses. Curie, Piper and Cait have their own houses which I decorated each uniquely. For instance, Curie's house, I decorated her house with all the science/medical junk that I'd picked up (microscope, test tubes, medical tray, etc). Piper's house was turned into a reporters hideout complete with a typewriter on the desk, folders, pens, etc. Cait's house I did it a little different and I don't want to post any spoilers, lets just say I didn't decorate her house with any drug paraphernalia.

My "themes" are along the lines of having a clothing store run by a fancily-dressed settler, a bar run by Cait (who likes drinking), a general store run by the Vault-Tec sales rep, and a clinic run by a settler wearing a lab coat or something (which can be hard to find).

I also built a https://www.dropbox.com/s/y9gdzx0iqdlr9up/2015-12-22_00001.jpg?raw=1 that houses combat-related stuff like power armor station, weapon/armor craft station, etc.

I build all settlement in a MM theme. Guards in major settlements get reinforced heavy combat armor around a full MM uniform and Guards in minor settlements get a colonial duster with a hat and act like a sheriff. Provisioners get sturdy combat armor around a full MM uniform. All settlers get clothing fitting for their job.

I wish there was MM combat armor. I found a mod that does it but it looks not up to date.

Most of my settlements have a loose theme. Sanctuary is the capital and has all the amenities, including 5 caravan posts, also sent all the men away, it's just wimminz Sturges and the depressed dude.

Red rocket is my supply depot, I send all my ghouls here to run supply lines, Vault Tech to run the store, and Hancock to oversee operations.

Next Abernathy, sunshine, and tenpines are labor camps, cause I need adhesive. These are women as gaurds, men doing the lifting.

Grey garden I turned into the projects, just a bunch of happy folks listening to jazz and collecting scrap while robots keep them fed.

Overland is a scrap yard and secondary supply hub.

Country crossing is a trade town and 3rd supply hub.

I'm in the process of setting up Hangman’s Alley as a carven stop and major market place. First I cleared out and scraqed everything that could be. The 1st floor is an open through way for carvans to pass through. I covered everything I could with a roof/floor. It has turrets, bramin watering tubs and a general store shop. 2nd floor has all the shops and a small food court with 2 bars. 3rd floor is where all the settlers sleep and live and the roof top has patio tables and chairs, pool table, tv and jukebox so the settlers can chill after a days trading. Right now I use the Convenient Stores mod to fit all the stores on the 2nd level. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5181/

Has anyone built up that area in front of the cliff (under the overpass) at Greygarden? I couldn't believe how far out the area goes that way. I've been thinking about building some tower, starting at the base of the cliff and then working my way up to the settlement cap. Since you can start way below the ground level I imagine you can add quite a few levels to a tower there. Just have to come up with a theme for it.

Abernathy can make for a great wild west style town.

You can actually build on the highway up top too.

I made a tower next to the greenhouse tall enough that roof access had a stairway to the highway. The majority of my turrets and spotlights are up there.

Wow. Will definitely check that out. I've seen some images and videos, but I never know if those players were using mods or tricks.
