Quests and time limits

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 12:08 pm

Most quests don't tell you there is a time limit even when they do have one.

As I work on one quest, often other NPC'S give me another quest while I'm in the middle of the first one.

And eventually I wound up with about 15 quests and then some of them timed out.

Most of them did not tell me I had to do them in so many days ( game days ).

If a quest is going to expire it should tel you so.

Is there any way to resume quests that timed out?

Unfortunately. the only way I know is to load an earlier save and quickly get to working on that timed one and hope you still have enough time. Most of the time, I believe, if you fail, you fail and the kidnapped NPC dies. Of course, in the grand scheme of thing, who really cares? You'll get another kidnapping, or some other radiant quest in short order. Only down side is that you may lose some named NPCs that get kidnapped.

I learned all the time limits by sitting and waiting after I received these quests. Some of the time limits are really short, but knowing them at least would give you a chance to plan ahead when you see one:

"Help Defend" settlement quests only give you a 15-hour window (15 hours on Pip-Boy clock) for you to complete. That's barely enough time for you to do a fast-travel if you happen to be far away. So these quests are the most urgent.

Kidnapping quests give you a 2-day window to complete. If there are two stages to the quest (i.e. talk to the settler, then rescue the kidnapped victim), then you get a 2-day window for each.

"Raiders trouble...","Ghouls problem...", and "Greenskins" quests give you much more time: a 15-day window. If there are two stages, you get 15 days for each. These are the only ones you can put off. Still, 15 days on the Pip-Boy is just 18 hours real time.

The only ones that seem to have time limits are the radiant quests for the Minutemen. The Kidnapping at ________ quests, the Raider/Ghoul Problems, and the Greenskins quests do. I'm not sure if the 'Clearing the Way' quests are timed or not. I don't think so though.

My guess is that these are the 'Clearing the Way' quests where you just have to go to a settlement and clear out the hostiles to unlock the settlement.

Some quests in Fallout 4 actually have a time limit? And it doesn't show you the time limit clock?

Nice! I have to say ABSOLUTELY NICE!
