The ones who are following you during missions have the most annoying AI, The Big Dig for instance, they are constantly in the way and bashing against you, far worse than normal companions, they literaly ruined that mission for me

yeah lol, but to be fair its not a FO4 problem beth has never been any good at non [censored] useful non-companion npcs, although the companions are the absolute worst so far id say
