The Lost Patrol and some companion questions BoS

Post » Sat Jan 23, 2016 2:11 am

This post and probably the entire thread will contain some minor spoilers but I would really like to try and avoid any big ones if possible. I am trying to complete the quest "The Lost Patrol" given by Paladin Danse. The first two sites you need to get to aren't that bad. The third one though, the satellite array has a huge number of super mutants, some are suiciders some are high level and some are legendary. I am level 20 and getting my tail kicked in this fight. Even if I can avoid the insta-death from the suiciders the high level mutants and legendaries cut me down in no time flat. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I too low in level for this quest? If I put it off for a while and try to level up some will I fail it?

A second question: Every companion who I have done Brotherhood quests with doesn't seem to like them. So far I have tried to do Brotherhood missions with Piper and Codsworth and they both don't seem to be particularly pleased with them. I haven't even tried Nick because of the whole synth thing ditto for Strong since I can't see them wanting a super mutant around. Are there any companions who I can do Brotherhood quests for who actually like the faction? I know Danse is eventually recruitable but I have not progressed far enough in the story for that apparently.

Yes, you are too low level for that quest.

Also, what your companions think is irrelevant. Make your own choices about who to support. However, if you really are that annoyed by your companions' opinions, Curie and Cait support the BOS. However, the BOS may make some mean comments towards Nick and Strong but they never actually do anything to them.

Early on in the game you should look for better armour and better weapons, then go back and have another go.

i first did that site by laying land mines, drawing them out and running away, throwing grenades, to tackle one at a time if possible.

If you get a weapon that damages their legs it slows them down.

Spoiler
Later on, if you build up the settlements you can draw out the mutant hound and get your settlers involved, who live nearby.

I remember that I had a similar problem, that was kick the Mutants out of a water treatment station for the Mr. Handies in Graygarden. Was too low level, and didn't want just "put a lower difficulty" to do that, since I promised myself that I would finish the game on Normal.

So I waited to go there. Leveled up and got some new weapons, then get the quest done. You can put on a lower difficulty, or just wait for your time. I also had the same trouble when I had to go visit Virgil in The Glowing Sea. Deathclaws and Radscorpions everywhere... I simply couldn't walk there.

Oh, by the way, try using V.A.T.S. and shoot the Super Mutant Suicider in the arm that he is holding the mini nuke (always right arm, but take a look). You will see lots of fireworks and the Super Mutants near him will also suffer lots of damage. It can be always done, and often the mini nuke explodes even when he is with >75% of life (that goes to 0% immediately), so you didn't even have to kill him to get the bomb detonated. Try get a critical in this shot (more damage and 100% accuracy), maybe helps. If you done this stealthy, when he is just standing near other Mutants, it will have more effect than if he starts running in your direction.

But remember that, if you are in a situation that you want his mini nuke, you have to kill him without letting him explode.

And lots of companions keep crying about the BoS, principally Nick Valentine and MacCready. Just ignore them =P

Certain companions actually like BoS, in particular, Curie, ironically enough, likes it if you joins them and she even wishes to join them in several conversations, she asks Danse to join and when she gets to the ship, she also has some comments about wanting to join. She's enjoying the BoS the most out of non-faction tie character. Cait actually likes the BoS the most, she's against them in the beginning, but most of her comments afterward shows that she's in favor of the BoS. MacCready doesn't like any faction, but he has the most positive things to say if you side with the BoS. He and Cait are the only people (asides from Strong who is too stupid to think) who actually like to wipe out the Railroad.

From my experience, for viewpoints that favored each faction:

Nick, Preston, Piper, Hancock, Codsworth, Deacon: Minutemen and Railroad

Cait, MacCready: BoS, Institute

Danse, Curie: BoS, Minutemen

Strong: BoS (since a lot of their actions often need violence solutions, and he loves violence)

X6: Institute
