Too many Super Mutants

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 9:38 am

Has anyone else noticed how many buildings for quests and such are occupied by Super Mutants? By Diamond City there's Super Mutants, Big John's Salvage, Fallon's Department store, etc. It seems like Bethesda got very lazy with this. Since this is the fourth installment in such a successful franchise, I expected that there would be a bunch of other tough enemies around. Gunners and Raiders are a joke. Synths aren't common to encounter, and I'm on good terms with the BOS so I'm not going at it with them. They should of introduced a Reptilian humanoid race stronger than the Super Mutants. Intelligent humanoid Deathclaws aren't a bad idea either, or whatever messed up thing they could think of.

If you could introduce a new enemy race into the game, what would it be and why?

I dont think I would want a new race, rather diversification among the current groups throughout Boston.

In other words I would have liked it a little more if different Mutant and Raider occupied areas where diverse gangs with diplomatic opportunities in approaching them and a revamped functional rep system associated with it.

A reptilian race? No thanks, that'd be horrible. Fallout has so much lore, the sudden introduction of a new race would be a bad move.

Theres a good range of races from past fallouts that might have been interesting such as the Beastlords and even intelligent Deathclaws.

Referring to your first point, that was exactly what New Vegas did, and it was fantastic.

i'm fairly sure the death claw is a reptile ,

would be interesting to see a super mutant or death claw faction , what they could bring to the war

I dont have a problem with it really. The super mutants are iconic and have been with us in some way right from the very start.

Instead of introducing new creatures it might have been a better idea to bring back some of the retro ones like the floaters and wanamingos. A bit of nostalgia.

NV has like 10 supermutants to fight on the map at any given time, thats not good,, its got like 20 raiders on the map, 2 robots[near the enclave vertibird], its got tons of deathlcaws they're not exactly fun to fight cause they don't have guns, i hate creatures, i like human enemies shooting at me, you have to be way more tactical when human/ human type enemies are shooting at you, NV is a melee fest, probably 75% of the enemies human or not are melee, thank God bethesda likes ranged combat, melee is ok a little bit here and there, i like a few creatures just for some variation but to get all hung up on deathclaws, scorpions, ants, gecko's, i don't mind the creatures bu ti don't want them outnumbering human enemies, bethesda has the proportion right.

More robots would have been nice, they could have taken control of more buildings/areas

I think the point was that any group could essentially become a group of Raiders depending on how you approached them and the favours you did for them, or the times you attacked them.

Powder Gangers could essentially be your very first group of Raiders unless you wore Powder Ganger armour. Now granted the system New Vegas had was way too easy to bypass, in the sense that all you had to do was don the correct gear and you were left alone a lot of the time, but Bethesda could have built up on that system and integrated it with the Stealth mechanics in some form to create a system where Rep mattered more so than gear. E.g. getting too close to a gang member means they could recognize your face, or they might have a secret word they say at the beginning of their talks, and that would catch you out.

I know a lot will disagree when I say that I think Bethesda was a little lazy in the way they built up FO4 by avoiding a lot of what New Vegas did. FO4 would have benefited a ton had the groups been somewhat diverse, and had a rep system been in place (IMO).

The Forged and Triggermen are the only distinguished group of raiders, but the problem is that the former still reacts to you like any other group of raiders. The Triggermen on the otherhand are a nice change when they at least tell you to back off (I dont think I ever do back off though :P ).

While doing alot of missions and travelling, there are less hostiles to fight now. Some locations are empty (no spawning) and some locations supermutants have been replaced. There are locations where supermutants and other factions always spawns, these are fixed. I like to see more respawning, because I need to take a really long walk now in "downtown" to see any hostiles. I like to examine more houses as well, since the door is blocked, meaning you should be able to break in into more houses.

Radically new creatures I think would sort of feel like the series jumping the shark. I'd rather see new factions to face off against. I've said it many times before, it would be neat to actually go up against remnants of the "Red" factions. Even if the chinese for example were on the brink of defeat before the bombs fell, I don't think that'd necessarily mean they were all wiped out. I just can't imagine they'd not have taken measures to preserve some of their best and brightest as well who would probably be harboring a 200 year grudge.

to ^, yes, while lvl up or something you meet new type of hostiles etc. If you clear a location, some other takes over as example.
