Scrapping Junk

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 2:23 am

Hi all,

There has got to be a better way to scrap junk than drop it on the ground, enter workshop mode and scrap each item dropped. Tell me this isn't the most efficient way!

Thanks,

Instead of scapping each individual item just transfer the junk into the workbench and it will give you the parts whilst keeping the items. I hope this helped :)

Scrapping armor and weapons have to be done in workbenches or on the ground.

For non-weapon/armour items, i.e. actual junk...store then in workshop, and they auto-breakdown when needed.

I always scrap everything on the ground. I don't trust that it shares it properly between settlements unless it is broken down.

They seem to share without. Tested a few rimes myself. Placed a handful of items in one settlement with a very specific set of components. Set up a supply line and tested at the other settlement. Was able to build fine.

Ah but did you put the broken down parts in there or the whole item and it broke them down automagically even though you were in another settlement?

Transferring is quicker, but takes up more storage space. If you're really intent on doing a LOT of modding and building, that space might come into play.

Scrapping consolidates space by saving only the usable parts.

And if I understand it correctly it also increases your max settlement building limit. Or at least resets it some what.

Not sure on that, as I do very little building and modding. Mainly because I feel they've done a horrible job of integrating it as a more necessary and useful, vs side show feature. They eluded us into thinking it's vital.

The reason I rarely mod weapons is you always find progressively more powerful ones anyway, making it somewhat useless. The reason I rarely build up settlements is I don't see creatures or NPCs raiding them.

When settlements get attacked, it's always part of a scripted, unseen scenario to keep giving you repeating side quests. What they should have done is make those side quests stop repeating once you've built up the settlement.

There are SO many ways settlement building could have been tied to the game, but it only seems to serve trade wise for profit and resources, and that's only if you buff the necessary skills.

I always scrap on the ground. It's more of a habit than anything else. I started out doing it that way, and at this point it's basically just part of my regular routine. There is also another benefit, however. If you scrap on the ground it lowers your settlement size meter (as mentioned above), so you can build beyond the limit if you so choose. Just be careful--don't go too over the limit...

They definitely do. I have thoroughly tested this myself.

If you're scrapping everything on the ground, you are literally wasting your time.

And regarding lowering the size limit by scrapping stuff, this isn't really a valid reason. You can accomplish the same thing by dropping a bunch of guns on the ground and storing them, and it's going to lower the size meter MUCH more quickly than scrapping a bunch of junk will.

True enough. I guess I just like going through the motions. Also, though, I just like to see huge numbers for materials (as well as caps/ammo).

Suit yourself. There's definitely nothing 'wrong' with doing it this way, but just know that it's entirely unneeded.

Unneeded, perhaps. Irrational, certainly. It seems I do a lot of things like that. For instance, at sanctuary I've planted somewhere around 200 cornstalks. With 11 settlers that's just senseless. So be it.

Glad to know it does share properly QuantumCurt. Though like Reduc it is habit for me now. Guess it goes back to when we had that whole components not showing properly between settlements thing when the game was first released.

When I'm scrapping bulk amounts of weapons I always do it on the ground.

I've learnt that doing bulk weapon scrapping through the weapons bench can confuse the game resulting in your favourite weapons also disappearing from your inventory even if they are legendary and non- scrappable.

It's also a second opportunity to decide whether or not you really want the gun or a supply of wood, steel, springs and so on.

I've suspected this. Never encountered it as far as I know, but I'm always wary of just dumping mass amounts of weapons in the workbench. I usually put them in separate containers, hoping that settlers won't nab them. Best to keep things simple--throw those things on the ground and rip em up!

Same here. I prefer to see what I have actually in stock.

Instead of : (for example)

alarmclock : 49

tin can : 275

coffee pot : 78

etc...

I prefer to see : (for example)

acid : 78

lead : 59

oil : 259

etc...

It was in the beginning a bit time consuming, I agree, but as I have proceeded in the game, I don't do much scavenging anymore. I have more than enough materials. Even if I am missing something, I go buy a shipment of it at a merchant. What else is there to do with 100.000 caps in my pocket?
