No wonder the minutemen got wiped out back in the days..

So I'm having this big battle where lots of minutemen recruits are called in to join the battle. And in the heat of the battle one of them decided to run in front of me (we all know how great FO4 AI is). So I hit one of them with a bullet, did not kill him, but suddenly all minutemen recruits decided 'never mind the enemy, we must kill the general'. And all started shooting at me.

After trying this battle several times with the same result, I decided to do like a general and stand in a corner and let them fight the battle them self.

So yeah, with recruits like that, no wonder that the minutemen were wiped out back in the days..

It's not cool with big battles where you can't shoot because if you hit one of the friendly that runs around like headless chickens, they all turn on you.

Things like this is just game breaking. You need to show up somewhere to assist in a fight, but in the end all you need to do (and the best thing to do) when you're there, is to sit down and have a drink while the AI fight it out. Get in their way by accident, and you're the enemy of all.. Stupid.

Haha thats kinda funny but sad, I have felt that as well though and auto weapons are the worst when allies just jump in front of you.

My favorite npc AI thing is Maxson and Brandis gattling laser combo mowing down all of their fellow brotherhood friends.

My favorit moment of something like this was in a base defense I fired a crit at a raider in vats and some how it winged one of my settlers suddenly I had to kill my own settlement cause they didn't understand friendly fire is a thing that happens in battle.

Never played a game like this where that didn't happen.

Well, I've learnt to be careful.

Sometimes I have to go up to them and see if they are a raider or a Minuteman.

Virtually tap them on the shoulder and ask, "Friend or foe?"

Not so bad if the foes are obvious, though, like synth, Deathclaw, bear and so on.

It goes both ways.

The Minutemen are forever throwing grenades which knock down my health.

Lookout if they pick up a plasma grenade from a foe.

Sometimes in a large fire fight it is hard to tell friend from foe in the heat of battle. I've found that if I go into Vats, especially with a weapon that allows multiple shots, I can target only the enemies without hitting my allies. Nuka Cola Cherries & Quatums can help big time with this. Otherwise, in a crowd, you're bound to hit an ally and turn them against you.

True about VATS but my character never uses it.

He always gets close enough to see for himself or looks through his scope if at a distance.

I have a melee character. Assisting the Minutemen at their checkpoints is a grenade fest. I now just show up and watch.

The "good" news is that this work two ways, an settler must have managed to hit an turret, it turned hostile to us.

Or perhaps the turret hit the settler who shot back.

It could be worse, castle has both minutemen, the original crew and settlers added later

This is set up for an Oblivion style civil war, if one of them hit the others.

In Oblivion you at least had to hit three times before they turned hostile.

Fallout 4 should had the same function at least.

And yes VAT works nice here

Tip for next time: hold r.

Putting away your weapon when allies have turned hostile will make them 'forgive' you most if the time. Obviously it still stupid they react this way but at least there's a feature in the game that can stop it without reloading(most of the time).

Yeah, the minuteman need to be fixed. In contrast the brotherhood is way too tolerant when it comes to friendly fire. In my current playthrough I just got severals T-60 PAs by searching out Brotherhood patrols and shooting out their fusion cores. They don't care if you hit them a few times, you have to hit them often and reduce their health to about 30% for them to turn hostile. We should search for what makes them so tolerant to friendly fire and apply it to the minuteman.
