How do you sleep at night if you side with the Institute?

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 8:21 am

One of the BIG revelations in the FO series is that Vault-Tec betrayed pretty much ALL of the people that sought shelter in the Vaults. Just one HUGE human behavior experiment, using hundreds of thousands of people as involuntary guinea pigs. The normal knee-jerk reaction is essentially, "That's utterly reprehensible!" [Any certifiable sociopaths or psychopaths can leave this thread now. That would be anybody that disagrees with the previous statement.]

How is the Institute any better than Vault-Tec, morally speaking? If anything, the Institute has destroyed more human lives than Vault-Tec over the last couple of centuries. Directly, in their experiments and manipulations, or tangentially by sending killer synth squads to eliminate any inconvenient humans that posed a threat to the Institutes machinations. Guinea pigs or cockroaches, the Institute seems to be thoroughly uncaring that it has been human beings it was destroying.

I sleep during the day and only 1 hour at that. Then I'm off to kill more people to get my synths back.

I mean lets face it.

no BoS Vertibirds crashing at all hours of the night.

No "omg we must erase the memory of freed synths and then ignore/wash our hands of any wrongs they do"

or

"Another settlement needs your help General."

Is there an bed in the director's quarters?

I know it sounds stupid but I spent like an hour searching the tower for one and apart from Shaun's coffin thingy I couldn't find one.

on a pile of human bones.

The Institute is just as good or evil as its Director. Who cares what previous directors did you have total control. You think its moral to destroy tech that could repair the world?

With clean food, functioning toilets, an army of terminators, a troop of gorillas, and the best minds in the Commonwealth.

But to your point about human beings.

Have you cried for every raider you've put down? Every Institute scientist you murdered if you sided with the other factions? Those were human lives. Yet you killed them, because you perceived them to be threats or their existence inconvenienced you.

Very well.

Then again, it probably has something to do with the fact that, as Director, I can set policy. And, provided I work with the Directorate and take baby steps, "helping the Commonwealth" will replace "experiment on the Commonwealth."
