Suicide Squad Movie

Post » Tue Jan 26, 2016 9:48 pm

Saw this trailer and I can't wait to see it: https://youtu.be/CmRih_VtVAs .

I wonder if this film is suppose to be set in the same universe as Batman V Superman, if so it'll be cool if Ben Affleck would reprise his role. Not sure how I feel about Will Smith playing Deadshot but I like the gal they got to play Harley.

It is.

DC is now doing what Marvel is doing with their movies. It's all one world.

It's been hinted but not confirmed (?) that Affleck will have a small role as Batman in the movie.

Well then that's good to hear. I'll say one thing, this year is going to rock with these DC films coming out :D.

I hate what DC's done to Harley Quinn ever since the New 52, and it looks like the movie is continuing the trend.

To sum up my thoughts on the trailers so far:

Don't like:

Harley Quinn both in terms of look and personality so far

Killer Croc looks atrocious

Captain Boomerang not seeming to have any boomerangs (Not to mention Jai Courtney is a TERRIBLE actor)

El Diablo's outfit

The look of the Joker

Like:

Amanda Waller

Yeah. Not looking forward to this movie. WB doesn't seem to have much of a game plan yet, and seems to be trying too hard to ape Marvel's success without understanding treating the source material with respect is a good start. They always seem to be approaching their movies with the idea of "fixing" the characters, as if the comics themselves are fundamentally flawed. I admit it worked with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but it hasn't worked for anything since.

I agree with Dovahkin. The casting and character designs are greatly disappointing. They may impress me on screen but from what I've seen thus far that appears to be a long shot. Most movie goers won't know these characters besides the Joker but everyone else might find it okay.

The movie looks interesting to me and I will probably go see it. I've never read a comic book though, so I have no preconceptions about the characters. Even so, I won't go into it with high expectations. If it doesn't put me to sleep I'll be satisfied.

I'm OK with most of what I see. Smith looks good for the roll and I'm interested in the direction for HQ since this also kina seems to be an origin movie for her since it looks to be the story of how she met Joker. Speaking of Joker I don't really like what they've done with him as far as character design but I'm willing to give him a chance to impress me in other ways.

Lucky for me after playing the Arkham series and watching the Assault on Arkham movie, I've gotten pretty familiar on who's who :D.

I have it-it's pretty good.

I'm kinda rooting for Cara Delevingne's movie career, so I'm hoping it will do well. (She was quite well received in Paper Towns but AFAIK the movie pretty much tanked.)

I like Jared Leto in virtually everything and I'm still sort of rooting for Will Smith, even if he's gone the sofa-hopping way of Tom Cruise.

That said, the trailer looks dire. Sorry, but that is not a good trailer. Let's hope it's a poor trailer for a good film.

I have to say, having the trailer end with a line like "Nothing really matters to me" strikes me as a bad move, just because there's lots of people who seem to think Warner Bros treats its superhero IPs disrespectfully in their willingness to alter them beyond recognition to try and make a movie.

Also, I'd be worried about having a tagline that you can't turn into a negative review ("Worst heroes ever"). Though it probably won't be worse than last years Fant4stic.

I forgot she was in that.

I've never been a big Will Smith fan. Last movie that I saw him in that I really liked was the original Men in Black.

Yeah it looks pretty stupid in my opinion. Casting is terrible, having the joker as part of them just makes him a [censored]. And if he's just in for a cameo, that makes him an even bigger [censored].

Joker should have his own movie, not be shoehorned in with a bunch of crappy b villains.

Harley Quinn looks and sounds terrible, I've seen better cos players. Joker looks terrible (reserving judgement on actual acting, just looks bad), a chaotic soul like joker wouldn't let anyone tattoo him.

Killer croc looks pretty Lame too.

I can see will Smith doing a good deadshot, he can do self loathing and brooding well (think like last half of I am legend). Still gonna reserve judgement on his actual role until I see it though, will Smith can be a hit and miss actor.

I'm assuming Joker is either the antagonist, or the film's Big Bad is going to have their plan hijacked by him in some fashion. I think he's in too many scenes in too many different outfits and settings in the trailers for it to simply be a cameo.

Alternatively, he might be out to destroy the Suicide Squad and Waller because he wasn't invited to the party. I remember a villain team up story where everyone is pissed that Lex Luthor invited the Joker, with Lex's rationale essentially being "He's a murderous psychopath who might betray us at any second, but I'd rather have a murderous psychopath who might betray us at any second as part of my team than have a murderous psychopath out to wreck our plans because he isn't part of the team."

Either way, I doubt he's part of the Suicide Squad itself.

I will say it's better than the Star Trek Beyond Trailer: https://youtu.be/XRVD32rnzOw.

I am not a Beastie Boys fan and the song they used in that trailer for a Star Trek film was a horrid combination  .

Still I hope both films are great when they release :D.

Wasn't that song already used in the first movie from JJ when they first introduced Kirk as a child? Seems rather silly to use it again. Although I suppose its fitting for a trailer full of explosions for a film directed by the Fast and the Furious director. :teehee:

As for Suicide Squad, its the casting and appearances that get to me, with the only one that I can see being reasonable in both those areas being Will Smith as Deadshot. I still can't get over the Joker's horrendous appearance. I don't doubt Jared Leto's abilities to play the role, but that look...you're trying too hard to seem as edgy and different as possible. Seems to be the case for a lot of things in this DC cinematic universe WB is creating. Which all seems rushed trying to play catch up with Marvel; shoving as many characters as possible in their movies from the get go.

Yeah they did, when Kirk was driving his step-dad or grandfather's car that plummeted over a cliff. For some reason the song worked there but it just didn't work for the trailer.

Agreed. And the worst part is that they don't seem to understand what worked for Marvel. Did they change things? Sure. But they also knew that people wanted to see the characters they've loved for 70 years adapted to film in a faithful manner. Changing them so much seems to be defeating the purpose, and they should have realized that considering the successes of fairly faithful adaptations like The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter franchise.

Were we one executive note away from a Gandalf that engaged the Balrog in a rap battle?

I didn't even know that movie was directed by the fast and the furious guy til now, and funny thing when I saw the trailer in the theatre I leaned over to my friend and was like "it looks like they turned the franchise into fast and the furious in space".

Now that was a God awful trailer. The suicide squad trailer looks like a masterpiece in comparison. I never saw a trailer that made me not want to see a movie so bad as the star trek trailer.
