How to get Balbus to move?

Post » Wed Jan 27, 2016 1:08 am

He showed up at the spawn point for one of the Dead Treasure Hunters (between the "back road" up to the watchtower on the way to Bleak Falls Barrow, and Anise's Cabin). He's been there for several in-game months now, and since he showed up there, I haven't found a Dead Treasure Hunter, so no notes about weapons in dungeons *sigh*....

Is there any way to get him to go away? I'd much rather have the Dead Treasure Hunters and their notes, than an NPC who's part of a quest line I won't ever do....

Im not sure, actually. He stayed up on the road leading to Valtheim Towers for a long time in my game, but finally left. He stopped a lot of spawns there too.

Well, I don't want him to turn hostile necessarily, 'cause then I'd have to kill him.... I'm not totally averse to just killing him if that's the only way. But I'd really rather he'd just go away on his own.... silly git.

Phoo. I don't need him at all, since I never do the DB quest line. But I really don't want to murder him....

Wiki leaks :ahhh: .............sorry Wiki Skyrim says :)

  • Balbus' appearance is one of the random encounter that exist throughout Skyrim.

  • Unlike most random encounter characters, Balbus does not disappear when the Dragonborn leaves the area, remaining at his original location unless killed. A new random encounter will occur if the location is revisited after some time has passed; if the encounter includes hostile characters, they are likely to attack Balbus.

  • It's highly possible he's found dead, because he's not an essential character, is very weak, and will be attacked by any hostile enemies that approach him. As a result, he's easily killed.

but in saying all of the above he is the first to give you a clue to a Brotherhood quest that you will do much later on ...he talks about a chef..........the one you have to kill much later on (you just dont know it yet) ............in role play terms this is a gem of inspiration...........yep there are backstories ..........Balbus is a essential part of this dark-brotherhood quest ......the same way it is meeting Cisero before you become a member of the Brotherhood .......they just fill in part of the stories and give you clues

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do if he's still there next time I go back. I keep hoping whatever kills the treasure hunters will off Balbus for me *sigh*.

I just found that he hadn't left in my game at all, he's just farther down the rocks out of line of sight. Still seems to be stopping spawns at that spot.

Well, I got back on that toon last night late, and pushed some game days past - 15 probably. I'll go check this morning, and if he's still around, I'll be perfectly happy to disable him!

Yeah, he was still there. Bingo! Disabled.

In the future if you just want an NPC to move, click on them so their ID appears in the console and type:

moveto player

They'll show up right next to you and will go about their normal schedule before they got stuck/trapped by the environment, physics glitches, hostile wildlife or whatever.

Yeah, I found that potential option in the wiki - but it appears I didn't have the right NPC ID - there were several for Balbus, and no matter which of them I tried, he didn't show up.

Install http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/44596/? and you'll always know if you've got the right NPC selected.
