Bethesda -please patch the .44 Revolver

So I love that FO4 has a .44 double action revolver. I even love the crazy high damage stats. What I don't love is the asinine habit the PC has of ALWAYS EVERY-TIME cocking back the hammer and firing single-action only.....for every single shot! Of course fixing this would mean adding different animation so I probably will not see this fixed....but a guy can dream. And I'm gonna ask anyway! By the way walking around with the hammer cocked on a DA revolver is an incredibly dumb and DANGEROUS thing to do as DA revolvers have a VERY LIGHT (2-4.5 lbs usually) Single-action pull when cocked.

So here is my proposed fix:

Keep it as-is by default. But for people that want a proper Double-Action fired .44 then add in some standard DA shooting animation via a patch (or perhaps in the first DLC). This animation would only show up if the player chose a newly available perk called "Double-Action .44". This would be under agility. When chosen the new animation would replace the old SA firing bit we have now. This would also mean a slight stat change.

Double Action firing should have a healthy increase in fire rate (speed) but it should come with a SLIGHT decrease in accuracy. That's a realistic and balanced approach.

And while we are on the subject could we fix the other problems with the .44?

The full-under lug barrel (called somewhat inaccurately bull-barrel in game) looks to be a six incher. I'm pretty sure the game has it weighing LESS than the standard lugged shorter ones and give it a bonus for hip fired. This is BACKWARDS. The purpose of a long under-lug barrel is to add weight to the muzzle and reduce flip/felt recoil for long range shots. It should have an increased range and accuracy for sighted fire. The standard lugged 5-6 inch barreled gun should have a slight bonus on hip-fire accuracy. The .44 called "snub-nosed" should have the best bonus for hip-fire and even less range than the other versions. By the way the art used for that gun is NOT a snub-nose gun at all! It looks more like a standard 4 inch barreled service sized revolver to me. Snub-nosed revolvers are usually 2, 2.5, 2.75 or at most 3 inchers.

+1 I'm not a gun nut but more realism would be welcomed

I second you, OP.

More games need realistic weapon handling. While on the subject, aiming/sighting a minigun or gatling laser should spool up the barrels.

And while we're at it...

...can someone please research how you strike with a sword for the next Elder Scrolls. (Characters swing like they're using clubs. Of course, this is true for almost all non-Eastern RPGs.)

Well....broadswords as are popular in Sword & Sorcery genre I think are primarily swung like a club rather than thrusting as you would with skinnier blades like rapiers.

They aren't all broadswords. The two-handed swords are the only things I would call broadswords the rest are hand and a half at best. I too wish there were slightly more nuanced animations for swords when I see my character swinging my sword around for an attack all I'm thinking is wow this guy is an amateur look how much he just exposed himself to a thrust. Then again they aren't thrusting either but still... it irks me.

I hear you OP and agree; but it's probably best to keep expectations in check.

Remember this is the developer who thinks:

...it natural that all weapon actions should be set up for the relative low density of left-handed people in the general population.

...a battle-type rifle should be chambered in a pistol round.

...a fully modded assault rifle should weigh 27 POUNDS, and look like something out of steampunk meets the Argonne fantasy art show.

...the .50 is perfectly feasible to place on a pipe frame.

...a receiver can somehow make a weapon capable of piercing armor plating.

...magic is a far better alternative to replicate weapons effects than basic ammunition types and handloads.

Unfortunately for us, I don't think weapon realism is much of a priority for Bethesda.

My biggest annoyance with the. 44 is the need to spin the cylinder every time you draw the weapon. It eats up precious seconds, and when you've got a Legendary Glowing Mythic Alpha Deathclaw coming at you, the time spent spinning the cylinder can get you killed. Then again, this is a problem with all a lot of weapons, not just the .44 Pistol.
