Liam Binet (Railroad Quest Spoilers)

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2016 5:37 am

I finished the Railroad quest line and when I went back to the HQ, Desdemona hands me a suicide letter from Liam (aka Patriot). I was hoping someone could help me out as to what I have done wrong?

I used the terminal & Father's code to help as many people and synths as possible escape. Even so Liam says in his letter how he hates me. Is this a bug? Or did I do something wrong? And why did Desdemona even show me this letter ... to make me feel horrible?

Is this going somewhere? Please don't spoil me. A simple yes or no or tell me 'it's a bug' will suffice.

No, I don't think it is a bug.

Spoiler
I got the same letter from Desdemona, who is also the one who ordered me to avoid Patriot, as she didn't trust him to keep quiet if he knew that the institute should be destroyed.

Well, I don't think the full answer to your question is a spoiler, but just in case I'll put it under the tags.

So, the short answer - no, not a bug.

Spoiler
In a sense, yes you did something wrong - you blew up the home and family of a guy who did nothing but help you. All he wanted was to do a good deed and help synths escape, and you repaid him by keeping him in the dark about your true intentions and destroyed his entire life. He cared about synths but he also cared about the people in the Institute who died in the assault - which may in fact included his father, those who are now helpless and terrified on the surface, and the scientific work he did there that will never be recovered. He never wanted that. He didn't want to unknowingly become an accomplice to this horrid disaster. He just wanted to help the synths who wanted freedom. Congratulations, you drove a good person to suicide. Go Railroad!

If you do read that don't take it personally... ;) I'm just pretty sure that's the vibe Bethesda wanted that quest to have.
