Super Mutant Suicider WinsFails

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2016 9:00 am

This guy tends to make every encounter he's in interesting at least. I thought we could list some of the times something interesting happened with them and other times when they really messed us up.

My favorite Win was when I called in artillery on a group that included a suicider. Just before the first shell hit he saw me and started towards me. The shell landed behind him tossing him into the air, after which he exploded mid-air. It was a glorious thing to see.

My worse Fail was when I used a Vertibird to take me to a location. As it turned out the location was a Super Mutant hangout that had just respawned. Apparently the pilot did not see the suicider charging the Vertibird as he set it down to land. We landed, and were blown to pieces before my feet could hit the ground. Well played suicider, well played.

Wondering if anyone else had some interesting encounters with these guys, or how do you deal with them in general?

Best Suicider fail for me was while I was walking the freedom trail, walked around a corner right into a group of 4-5 muties with a suicider, he was about 5 feet from me when I turned the corner. No time to do anything besides fire off a couple of rounds and, boom we all went flying.

I had 4 feral mutts vs 4 wondering super mutants... charging at each other for a fight.

I was sure super mutants were going to massacre those poor mutts, but then there was big boom and all 8 of them were dead. LoL

Super mutants surely do have their true enemy within the ranks.

..anyhow, I was surprisingly never got killed by suiciders. There were few close calls.. but the explosion didn`t effectively finish me off.

I am not scare of them anymore since my character level is extremely high.. but I exclusively use my gauss rifle & critical shot for these guys cause I want that mini nuke.

Man........ unless I happen to catch a suicide bomber off in the distance, they most of the time always get me..... but I have seen a couple of times were some other enemy comes into the picture and the bomber turns his attention to them and blow up everything around them, once was as soon as I arrive to my destination from fast traveling, the screen loaded up to a huge BOOM! and parts were flying everywhere (I was like.......well, I know just what happen here.....)

I have noticed one can track their location by sound and wait for the good shot to take them down in stealth mode.
Companions do tend to be lousy at stealth sometimes. :P

I had one contact when I was wandering around Boston (I can't remember exactly where) and it was all quiet. Next thing I hear the telling "beep-beep" of the suicider. I turned around to see the bastard charging me at full tilt. I raised my rifle and had time to get one shot off before the bomb would've obliterated me (quickscope). The round struck the bomb and I watched him explode and scatter around me.

My gut reaction on suiciders is to default to a VATS headshot with a gauss rifle- but one of the downsides to the Strong Back perk at max level is that movement eats up your AP available in VATS.....

so more than once I've stumbled on one at close range, clicked into VATS and watched my ONE available VATS gauss slug blow the head apart in slow-mo..... and the body falls...... and BEEP BEEP BEEP- THERE'S HIS DAMM IDENTICAL TWIN SUICIDER BROTHER RIGHT BEHIND HIM GONNA GIVE ME A BIG ATOMIC HUG.

Dammit. :glare:

I once fast traveled to an location and spawned next to one :)

My favorite was the one I shot so he exploded taking out tree other and set fire on a car who took out the rest of the group

An interesting observation that exploding minigun don't detonate them as default. it might be that the explosive part who is most of the damage don't trigger the bomb, only a shot in the arm does.

As the explosion is an area effect they might die of the area effect then shooting at other. They have low health compared to the high level ones.

My first ever play through it wasn't a suicide mutie that busted my ass but a suicide mole rat that left me wondering wtf just happened. At first I thought,I stepped on frag mine or maybe even a bottlecap mine, but there was a distinct sound that came right before I died and those two explosives I mentioned doesn't make that sound. When I spawned again, the mole rat wasn't there, it wasn't until my second play through that I actually seen the suicide rat and then it became very clear to me what killed me.

I was looking to stick MILA on top of a building at a shipyard. I was standing in a street filled with vehicles. The environment was all peekaboo doorways and chain link fencing.

Suddenly, the Mad Bomber themesong starts playing "beep beep". I looked around for my dance partner -you know, red corsage on right wrist? - but I can't get a clear shot through the chain link. But I try anyway.

I'm zinging shots off of the fence and the building. Plus, I'm being fired on by several other SM hostiles, so I am continuously displacing. This in turn is driving the suicider to distraction, since the poor thing can't even pick which doorway to come out from and rush me.

I eventually heard an explosion ... I think it was suicide.

Worst experience: The first time I ever encountered one of them in the game! I was nearing Faneuil Hall, either to walk the Freedom Trail or to investigate the Gilded Grasshopper, when I see Super Mutants, and then hear an ominous beeping sound. I look, see the suicider running straight at me. I try to run, backpeddling while shooting at him, but...too late...he detonates close enough to me that I die. And then I get the "Touchdown" trophy.

Ever since then, whenever I hear that infernal beeping, I go into VATS and try to locate them before they get close and shoot their nuke arm.

Best experience: Any time I shoot a suicider from afar and end up blowing up the surrounding enemies. :) Once I killed a suicider, the explosion killed the other Super Mutants, and right as it was showing the explosion in VATS slo-mo mode, the "level up" animation showed. It was pretty epic looking.

I like to keep some AP-restoring food around.

Nuka Cola Quantums restore 100 AP, for example.

Mirelurk Egg Omelettes restore 50.

For those times when you just can't wait.

MY favourite happened the other day..

I was just setting myself up to take out a host of ghouls in sneak, which was especially important as they were right next to Super Mutants across the road in a broken down factory. Anyway, I pop a shot at one Ghoul killing it, and arouse caution mode, whilst I was sitting there wondering how that happened from such a distance, a literal hoard of Ghouls start charging down the road, my immediate thought being "oh s%$t", turned out they were charging at the Super Mutants, fight goes on for about 30 seconds when a suicider charges into the fray killing them all and solving both of my problems simultaneously.

As someone's previously said I mostly just try to take them down for the Mini Nuke these days. Though I now feel like I should shoot at their boom bracelets for the lols.

Suicider fail. Seen one in the distance with 4 other mutants and two hounds. Shot his right arm and triggered the nuke blowing up all mutants and hounds. Cool I thought Let me go check the carnage. Didn't realize he set the car on fire next to it. Well you know what happened next.

After clearing a building held by super mutants the quest pointer has me exit through the back door. As soon as the load is complete from going through that door I hear the beeping of the suicide bomber, a mutant yell, and boom. So I let the game reload the last save and boom. The game had auto saved after going through the door. Try one more time to see if I can get a shot off, no, boom. So now I avoid going out a different door after clearing a building.

On my way to

Spoiler
Weston

(which I'd already cleared) for the

Spoiler
Graygarden

quest. BoS landed and started attacking the group of Supers there. Weren't very effective (they never are). There were only 5 sup's and 2 were suiciders. BoS took down one Overlord but the 2 suiciders made it to the bird and blew at the same time. Flying bodies and machine parts EVERYWHERE! while I looked on from a distance. Impressive explosion.

Collected all the left overs and headed in to the plant to do my business without any encounters at all.

just bring something that can vats a lot ("deliverer" heavily recommended) and don't lose your nerves from the beeping, and you're safe.

they can take less damage than even a normal mutant, and when they die first, the nuke won't go off

True, but who needs that many mini-nukes? I already have 240 of them.

At this point I think I'll give Strong my tricked out Fat Man and my Mutant Slayer 4 slot Missile launcher, my 240 mini-nukes and 747 missiles and just go on a spree. Strong should enjoy himself.

I just need to stay away from settlements. :)

I was at fairly low level, sneaking around trying not to be noticed when I saw a group of super mutants with a suicider walking down the street.

Stupidly I took a shot at them, missed, but by pure dumb luck hit the car they were walking past.

As we used to say in the Air Force: I'd rather be lucky than good any day.

Three in a Mall, Killed the first and while looting the Mini-Nuke heard the beep-beep, Power Armor left My character with a Sliver of Health when the third came 'round a corner :brokencomputer:

I love when They take Their Kin with Them, and most of My characters like to assist the Suiciders in reaching Mutant Paradise, where the Milk of Human Kindness flows :celebration:

I don't have any good life and death stories like you guys do but I do have a funny.

Every other time I fast travel to Abernathy Farm I hear a explosion. Scared the crap out of me the first time cause I had just started making defenses and was in no way ready for anyone wielding a mini nuke. I waited for a time behind Connie Abernathy but nothing came so I snuck out into the woods to see what the hell happened. Chunks of Suicider and the bodies of his friends with a helpful note detailing there life philosophy was what I found. And dead bloat flys. So the only conclusion I came up with was that the random super mutant spawn is way to close to the static bloat fly spawn beside the farm. Which was proven the next time I traveled there when it happened again. Now I love going back to Abernathy for my nuclear material.

Fail/win...everytime dogmeat runs ahead and sets off a suicider. Helpful usually, ridiculous though.
