Misc items - haven't paid much attention till now

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2016 1:39 pm

So I have been playing for a while and game seems good, but not as great as I would have expected. But I dived right in with doing some missions\exploring, shooting, looting, crafting, bartering - rinse and repeat!

I however have been looking at the Misc items tab on pipboy and there is a mahoosive list of stuff and I only am now wondering what it all is for. So I have a few questions if people could answer them for me.

1. What are the Wasteland survival guides for?

2. What does the You're SPECIAL guide do? For?

3. I have a Perception Bobblehead, why am I not getting my +1 to PER ?? (I have a base of 4 and two apparel items with +1 each giving me what is showing as +6 in my stats)

4. Do any of the recordings\letters\notes play any part whatsoever in missions? Or are they superfluous drivel ?

5. I have 7 Lunchboxes - am I to hold onto these to make mines as was the case in FO3? Or....sell?

The problem I have with the inventory is the lack of description\notes for items that could do with some.

1. What are the Wasteland survival guides for?

When you read it you get a perk

2. What does the You're SPECIAL guide do? For?

When you read it you get to add 1 to one of your SPECIALs

3. I have a Perception Bobblehead, why am I not getting my +1 to PER ?? (I have a base of 4 and two apparel items with +1 each giving me what is showing as +6 in my stats)

It added the point permanently, doesn't show as +1.

4. Do any of the recordings\letters\notes play any part whatsoever in missions? Or are they superfluous drivel ?

Some play a part. Some are just background.

5. I have 7 Lunchboxes - am I to hold onto these to make mines as was the case in FO3? Or....sell?

Display, sell, whatever...

the Wasteland Survival Guides, the SPECIAL book, the Bobblehead... all they give a permament boost, when you pick them up.

This boost may have happened already far in the past, so you don't really notice it afterwards.

It also doesn't matter, if you're wearing them with you, or if you store them on a shelf or into a workbench.

The boost remains active... you don't need them in your inventory ^_^

the letters and recordings that are still necessary won't let your store them anywhere

you can easily clean up your MISC section, by storing everything away, that lets you do it

it will still be messy, but still :D

Bottlecap mines work great against the toughest of enemies, I especially like using them against Assaultrons and Sentry Bots. If the mine doesn't outright kill them, it'll blow their legs out from under them leaving them crippled. I stumbled upon a legendary Assaultron in Quincy after I thought I cleared the place, the damn thing hit me with its death ray and puff I was gone. When I respawned, I went right back to its location laid down a bottlecap mine and lured it out of the building. She (I think) ran straight into the mine and it took her legs out, she was still crawling with half her health, but the mine made the fight very manageable.

RobCo Fun (2) - ???

See when you choose to Inspect an item (for me clicking right stick) rather than it be a useless "This is what it looks like and zoom in or out" pointless screen there should be small descriptions there for items. I am sure it would not have been too hard for the almighty Bethesda to type something there so if you collected something and only later went to inspect it you would know!!!

1.) Wasteland Survival Guides give you a special bonus like all other magazines do. You can store them on a magazine shelf in your settlement if you want to show them off.

2.) Read it and you can pick one SPECIAL stat to increase permanently.

3.) Perception Bobblehead gives +1 Perception on the overall SPECIAL stat. So next time you level up, you should see you've gained a rank in Perception.

4.) Not necessarily. Some are quest items, others are random information/world building, and others can sometimes put a new location on your map.

5.) I guess sell, store, or display.

To get the RobCo Fun game, you have to actually pick it up with X or A depending on what system you are playing on. it will have that tone sound, the PC will probably say "Sweet", or "Hell Yeah", and there will be text overlaid on the top of the screen telling you that you can play the new game on your Pip Boy. Doing the inspecting thing doesn't give you the perk/bonus/game of magazines.

When you pick up a skill item, the screen will be taken over by that item, it will be literally in your face and it will tell you what that item does. You HAVE to hit the "take/use" key, in order to collect that item. You will also hear a distinctive sound... how in the world did you miss that?

Also, you can build a Pip Boy stand and a magazine rack at your settlements, in order to store these items.

I don't think it even should show up in your perks list in the first place, as having Diamond City on your map is not a perk at all.
