Do Damage Absorb Magicka work on Dragons?

Post » Mon Feb 01, 2016 7:33 am

I noticed that on default damage magicka/magicka regen potions work "ok" on low to mid level mages but on master they are useless and the same for enchanted weapons.

Dragons I would think are on a entirely different level BUT I just used 2 damage stamina regen (100%) potions on a Dragon (master lvl) when he had 75% health left and it put him down for good, I think that he was a weaker one but the point is that they worked.

Now I just acquired a 40 pt. magicka damage Bow and a 20 pt. Absorb sword that im going to try because even though the Dragon could'nt fly he was still spitting fire.

Has anybody had exp. with these types of weapons/ potions on a dragon? I would just like to compare notes after I try, I did a search but everything was very generalized, you know "just put him down fast and whack em with a big knife" or "fill him full of arrows".

I have not tried damage magicka vs dragons. I did find this statement in the UESP Dragons section though:

'Dragons have their own unique "dragon" versions of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fire_Breath, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Frost_Breath, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Unrelenting_Force, and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Drain_Vitalityhttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dawnguard shouts, and their http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fireball and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ice_Storm spells are treated like shouts as well. Dragons rely on their magicka reserves to use these shouts, which means that if a dragon's magicka is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Absorb_Magicka, it will not be able to use its shouts.'

That leads me to think it might be worth a shot.

As far as fending off a dragon's magical attacks, my elf relies on magic resistance. In fact, she has it at 85% (the cap) and can literally fire her powerful bow right into the breath of a dragon and prevail. Her weakness vs dragons is their melee ability - if they get teeth or claw into her, she's dead.

You mentioned that you're playing on the higher difficulty levels, that also will reduce your damage from enchantments. Plus dragons, especially the higher level ones, will have dramatically more health than your comparison to a mage opponent so the effect of any physical or enchantment based damage will be much harder to notice given such a deep health pool on the dragon. Regarding downing a dragon with 75% health left, that won't happen without mods. Dragons can choose to land and fight you on the ground so that one may have done so for that fight but their AI will usually try to send them up flying if it's still possible for them (health >= 50% without mods).

Yeah he only gave 1 bone and 2 scales so he was probably a weak one but honestly he landed with 75% health and stayed down until I offed him and that never happened before and this was my first time using damage stam. regen potions on a dragon so my logic reasons that it was the stam. regen potions that did it...it did take 4 but it seemed to have worked, im gonna try it again with a tougher one.
