So accordng to your logic we should be able to create daedric on level 2?Yeah that's not even wimpy that's stupid. You can't build a house without knowing how to buid a wall.Orcish requires more skill and yes you may need to know some of the processes needed to smith dwarfen to make Orcish armor .

No, because you cannot get your Smithing skill to 100 that early.

No you don't and it makes no sense for that to be the case. Basic forging techniques can be practiced with iron. However, the refined techniques for using certain materials can only come from practicing using that material.

In my opinion, the leveling system is already as natural as it can be. The only problem I have is that majority of perks are either boring or useless. Hopefully they'll be more creative in the next game. You can't have 3 perks that do essentially nothing but strengthen up a spell. That's that spell's school's job, not a perk's.

I'm pretty satisfied with the current leveling system.

I am all for minimum skill level for certain perks, and you are technically correct that the balance purpose of taking perks you don't want is to make a perk sink. That doesn't address the issue Chaka notes below that a lot of the perks are just plain boring and represent a balance that could be achieved by other more interesting methods. There are other, more fun ways to balance things besides just creating perk sinks filled with boring perks or perks that don't make sense in the progression of one perk to another.

Yep.

you know what, my suggestion does have one problem, if you only use one skill and continue too level the enemies would out level you, much the way leveling non combat skills only can make the game a certain degree harder, on that note i would just suggest a removal of the soft cap, whether they decide on a hard cap or no cap next elder scrolls game please balance the level rate with the skill progression, leveling a character should never be as tedius as it was in ES5 skyrim, and an after thought, please make skills like speech craft and lockpicking more usefull in the future, after playing a thief for the first time i can safely say they are the most useless skills in the game, in FO3 speech was invaluable and lockpicking extremely useful, elderscrolls should be more than just combat, ty

Not necessarily. In fact, only using one skill can potentially make you somewhat overpowered. You can max out a skill like 1H in the low to mid teens. That is the same skill perks you have and damage you will do at level 60.

I think it's good that you improve your skills by using them. That shouldn't be changed in Elder Scrolls games.

But it's also true that it doesn't make much sense that you need to take a certain perk just to be able to get another one that is not even related.

I think they could get around that the following way:

Keep the prerequisite that your skill must be high enough to get the perk you want.

But instead of climbing up the perk tree to unlock a perk, "higher perks" could just cost more perk points. Dragon Bone Smithing could cost 5 perk points.

This cost could be reduced by investing points in other perks in the same tree. But that could be any perk of that tree.
