At one time, I toyed with the idea of a playthrough centered around an actual Viking sword from history named Ulfberht.

I use Dovahzul. So if I make a sword with a burning enchantment, I'll name it "Yol Zahkrii", which is just "fire sword" in dragon tongue. Maybe not the most creative, but it gives me some pretty cool names for my weapons.
After completing Alduin's Bane I always return to the Throat of the World to see if Gormlaith's Ancient Nord Sword is there. If it is, I craft it into a Nord Hero Sword and place a max-powered enchantment on it (typically Chaos), and name it, "Gormlaith's Talent". I use it against Alduin in Sovngarde.
I always craft a ring with Magica/Magica Regen and name it "Ring of House Telvanni".
The last piece of Armor I enchant before the end game I always name something like, "XYZ Armor of Dovahkiin".
I precede the names of all enchanted items with two blank spaces so they appear at the top of my equipment lists.
It would be nice if the Xbox's virtual keyboard screen did word completion/suggestions, since time is of the essence when enchanting items.
So I really did name my twin ebony katanas "Hunger" and "Thirst". But the names don't show up. I obviously missed something....
My current character just enchanted a pick with a poison effect to reflect her nasty and vile command of the Alchemical arts. She donned it...
Prickaxe.
Mainly just to keep it separate from inadvertently smelting it into an iron ingot. Alas, the smelter will not decipher between an enchanted and a nonenchanted weapon. However, she has cultivated quite the liking to it, I must say.
Heh. If I were male, I'd be going "OUCH". But I'm not, so what I AM doing is laughing hysterically! Good one!
Someone reported that you can use the slow time shout to get enough time to double enchant an item before a fortify enchanting potion runs out.
I like to keep all my personal items together in the inventory. I start them with my characters name.
As standard I tend to use fire and shock enchants but if the weapon uses others I incorporate it in the name so that it's easy to pick out at a glance.
Current weapons:
Menay's Marauder: A dragonbone great sword.
Menay's Menace: a dragonbone dagger.
Menay's Mercy: A dragonbone sword
Menay's chaotic reaper: A stalhrim axe with chaos damage and soul trap enchantments
Then there's the 'Crossbow Of Ultimate Doom'. It bucks the trend but normally sits just below Auriel's bow in the inventory. The ridiculously melodramatic name suits it, really. It's pretty awesome but svcks the life out of grand gems faster than an anaemic vampire drinks blood. I should really have limited its damage to get more charges out of it.
When creating, you hit "F" to name and then
The timer pauses when you're in the keyboard screen.
I've wondered about that. Sometimes I can enchant all 5 pieces of Alchemy attire with a single potion (all named similar to: " A's Ring", " A's Visor", etc). But other times if I fumble in the keyboard screen (caps wrong, forget a space, etc) I can only enchant one or two items before the spell expires. So it seems as though it's more complex than simply the timer being paused when in the keyboard screen.
That's not entirely accurate, IIRC.
From what I remember, the 30 second timer is running all the while you are in the Enchanting menu. However, you can take as long as you want with one item, as long as you have the weapon, enchantment and soul gem selected. Even though the timer expires, it won't actually reset to your previous skill level until you craft the currently selected item.
Unless something has changed and/or I am not recalling the initial test findings.
I'm talking console (360), I should point out. I know it's different on PC. The entire game pauses to type in the name of the item and I'm fairly certain that includes the timer pausing. I can enchant 3 or 4 items and take my time naming them using one 30 second potion.
Yup - the time consuming part is scrolling down the list of enchantments, especially if you want to dual enchant an item with one enchantment from the top of the list and one from the bottom.
Would have been nice if only the enchantments available for the selected item were listed.
Named them according to function.
It gets especially confusing when Silver Ring 1 has a different function to Silver Ring 2 so I decided on "Arch/Mag Res Ring" and "Snk/LkPck Ring."
I'd still love to be able to find weapons worthy of the names "The Gonne" and "Peacemaker"
Heh something descriptive of its function and enchantments i.e. "daedric bow of fiery soul trap and paralysis" or something like that so I know exactly what it does.
Its not time consuming if you have an enchanting potion to use its usually a mad panic to go through and apply it before the potion wears off in a minute or two.
The timer will expire if you're not fast enough even while typing unless you have a mod that changes that.
On Xbox (and PS3 I guess) the timer pauses while you're in the keyboard screen. I know it's different on PC.
In all my 600+ hours of Skyrim, I've never taken to the Enchanting table seriously aside from improving items to sell or using it to level up. I've never spent any perks in the tree. Last night I enchanted my first item for use by my thief/assassin. A gold emerald ring with the Fortify Archery bonus (of only 14%... but hey, why not). I named it, 'Ring of Laserbeam Eyes'. I thought it was corny enough. Hahaha. So, Noodles Aplenty wears the Ring of Laserbeam Eyes.
I normally just named my weapons and armor what came to mind. I had a fire sword that I called Flaming Avenger. Something simple pretty much.
Finally gave in and got Jaxonz Renamer to do horses and weapons. Armor I'm not much on names anyway.... So now my katanas actually ARE "Hunger" and "Thirst" in the inventory menu, and my horses are "Moonsugar" (for my khajiit), and "Moondark" for my half-elf. Veri's horse is Black, but I forgot to rename him earlier.... Oh well, tomorrow's another day!
