Skyrim Overheats Laptop >:(

Post » Sun Jan 31, 2016 9:55 pm

I have played Skyrim on my Samsung intel core i5 laptop since 24th Dec. 2014.

At the most unoppunite times, it doesn't just CTD, it overheats my laptop. Clicks off like a switch.

I have recently brought a cooler with 4 fans to solve this problem, yet it still persists.

It doesn't happen often (It happens once a week, if I'm unlucky, mostly once every fortnight). But when it overheats once on that day, it overheats whenever I try to get back on.

The ratio of overheats on modded:unmodded is 1:1, but currently, I have an unmodded game and it crashed.

I give it enough circulation, so I'm at my wits end

Anyone got any help?

King.

Sounds like it has a 'clog' inside it somewhere?

Without any disassembly, you could do what I have done a few times before.

I'm a PC doctor and see some really clogged-up rigs.

Those little cans of compressed air that cost like ten bucks are BS...

I went by my local car repair guy's shop with the clogged rig and a dozen beers.

Gave him the beer and asked for the compressed air hose.

He brought it with the small 'focusing' attachment in place - now we're talking serious professional blwjob, heheh...

The clouds of dust and mung were legendary, when I was last there!

You couldn't do it inside, had to be out in the parking lot.

Re: smokers

In a heavily smoking household, all the fans etc. get coated with a gluey, tar-like filth that resists removal.

So you can see that the feeble little can of compressed air is pretty useless, right?

Therefore the question is: would it be worth a dozen beers to you, to have a cooler rig and play Skyrim etc. no probs?

Actually, in ~3000 hours (Steam says) my Skyrim never overheated...

But Fallout4 is roasting my rig! My heat alarm, set to 80C, is going off every time I play.

And this is in winter!

So, if you can't play Skyrim, best stay right out of the Commonwealth.

Yeesh, that actually works, with the garage air hose? I work at a gas station so I know what you're talking about; those hoses are high pressure! I'd be afraid I'd blow out something important! But hey, if it works ....

When was the last time you cleaned it out? Its probably full of fluff and dust clogging up the airflow.

I have not cleaned it out since December 2012. I will clean it out when I get home

No, I do not monitor it (I don't get the chance before it overheats.

I thing it's time to get started then... :P

Skyrim Performance monitor would be a nice utility for that. You could also monitor where your crash occurs!

Also, to post in White color is the best. Green hurts the eyes.

I had this happen on my older laptop, would just switch off a few seconds after turning on. Although my solution was less than elegant. :P

Basically I just blew hard a few times into the exhaust ,sure I ended up with dust all over my face and sneezing for a few minutes, but it worked!

A nice can of compressed air. Cheap at Staples or some other tech store. Maybe Walmart or Bestbuy.

What laptop is it? Make/Model?

I would rather use a can of compressed air as Jasper said, it's safer(And made for it). It really just sounds that the laptop just needs a quick clean from all the dust build up.

Worked at a gas station before, I won't dare to use one of those air hoses on a laptop!

You'll have to remove bottom panels and check vents. You'll need a small philips probably.

ALso follow Marks post above and see what temps you are actually getting.

How old is the laptop? Under Warranty?

If you can't do it yourself, get it to a computer shop for servicing it.

That would be the best, in your case. It doesn't matter if it's old, its operational - RIGHT?

Well, before yo do any damage to it (can happen, right?), get it to a shop to clean it properly.
