Perfectly Preserved Pie... Perfected

Post » Tue Feb 02, 2016 9:31 pm

Mmmm... pie!

You've seen the Port-a-Diners, their color bringing a touch of something sweet to otherwise drab environments. In a way they are time capsules, each locking away a perfectly preserved slice of life before the Great War, before radiation, before things got difficult.

Difficult like operating a Port-a-Diner. And they are difficult, trying to deny it would be more artificial than the pie ingredients. So, it seems only just that the PERFECTly preserved pie contained within ought to live up to it's name, being nothing short of perfect.

What would make the Perfectly Preserved Pie perfect for you?

I'll start with a few ideas:

-Perfect pie shouldn't provide only temporary enjoyment... it should be life changing. Eating a slice should give you a small, but permanent, stat boost.

-Pie should NOT respawn. Each slice is unique and special, once you've obtained it that Port-a-Diner shall forever remain empty to attest to your triumph.

-Increase the odds of getting some pie with maxed luck. Can you imagine trying to legitimately get pie out of every Port-a-Diner you pass? Odds are, you'd be trying for a VERY long time.

-If there are NPCs around, be they randoms or your companion, they should get excited and cheer when you succeed in obtaining your pie! Perhaps the Port-a-Diner could play a little victory fanfare as well.

-And of course, no glitches or theft should dampen anyone's pie experience!

One other idea: Let pie trigger short visions of life before the war. For example: When you eat a slice, the game briefly fades to white and you find yourself standing next to your spouse at the kitchen counter in your pre-War home, sharing a quiet drink as dusk settles outside. The memory lasts for 5-10 seconds, and then you're back to the present with your permanent stat boost.

If the pie is a "perfectly preserved pie" then.. The pie itself is not perfect. It was merely perfectly "frozen in time" - perfectly preserved.

The pie itself looks amazing. I imagine it would taste like some old style loaded-with-fat-and-sugar kinda pie.

How it survived is a miracle.

But i will oneday get that pie

Are we getting deep about pie or have i read this entire forum post wrong

Giving a piece of perfect pie to a companion should automatically give you max affinity with that companion, unlock his/her perk AND get you laid right there on the Port-a-Diner.

Forget the pie. How was it able to withstand radiation? And why the heck hasn't anybody looted the port-A-diner for its magical anti radiation properties??

This guy right here, he and or she gets it. Raiders the world over would incorporate its parts into the construction of their raider power armor and be an unstoppable scourge upon the wastes.

Have you seen raiders power armour?

Its just metal sheets piled ontop of the frame

I would argue that any man capable of doing so while under the effects of Super Roids, I mean Psycho is a man you should be terrified of. ;)

Someone in the game said "Yeah, I wouldn't touch anything that looks that good after two hundred years"

I think was

Spoiler
that guy that comes with you and Bobbi No-nose to rob Hancock. Can't recall his name right now.

Must be that same preservative that McDonalds use on their fries.

And I think it should offer some kind of permanent, or long lasting bonus. Since I've put over 500 hours into this game, I attempt these things about 5 times everytime I see one, I've only ever gotten one.

If you look at the Port-a-Diner, you'll notice that there is other spoiled and likely irradiated food inside of it (we can't be sure, seeing as this food is impossible to loot). So I would conclude that it's not the Port-a-Diner that preserved the pie, but the pie itself which has the magical anti-radiation properties. It is clearly a SPECIAL sort of food which is why I think some improvements are warranted!

Thanks :) and I'm not sure even the pie can cure that... did you know that molerats were actually the source of the Bubonic Plague?

I remember hearing that too! But you know how some foods such as sugar, honey, and cornstarch will never spoil if stored properly? Let's just assume that the pie falls into such a category. And as per my earlier post I completely agree on the permanent bonus and increasing the chance of getting a slice!

I still wonder why there isn't an achievement for successfully getting a pie.

That's a good point. It feels more like an achievement than some of the ones you find in various games, and I'm sure many people just try the Port-a-Diner a couple times never to return. And I'm all for pie achievement icons.

I'm curious, why perception? I could also see Luck, since when that claw grabs it I'm certainly feeling more lucky.

Hmm, interesting idea. Perhaps first you have to re-wire the Port-a-Diner with a circuitry puzzle, and then once you've got it functional they make a game out of using the claw to grab the pie? Or a myriad of other possibilities.

Go to Slocum Joe's, there's one on nearly every corner :P

Having high luck definitely helps. With 70 luck I got the pie first shot.
