Creating a New Merchant

Post » Thu Feb 04, 2016 12:17 am

Hi all,

I wanted to create a new merchant that sells a few spells I made for the community.

I'm referencing this thread I posted: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1541086-adding-spell-tomes-to-merchants/

I feel that creating a merchant will probably be safest.

What's the smartest way to go about doing this? I understand how to create an NPC and place him in the world, but will he just stay in one spot hopefully?

What's the strategy for adding a few spellbooks to his list and such? Any tutorials? I want to make sure I get this right and consider the caveats.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the spellbook part. But, for controlling how the NPC behaves, you will work with packages. There is probably already a merchant package for what you need (or very close) that you can assign to your NPC. This is a good place to start learning about packages: http://www.creationkit.com/Category:Packages

Hopefully, someone else can fill in with info about adding spellbooks, etc.

Merchants are specific types of NPCs so you have to do more than just create a standard NPC. Look at this excellent tutorial which I used myself to learn. Also, AI packages are used to govern NPC movements, so your merchant will need to have one of those that tells him where to stay. Normally, merchants have a place to work at, and maybe even a place to live.
