fallout 4 will not launch at all, nothing, nadda... plz help

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2016 4:26 am

I recently purchased fallout4, I installed it via Steam.

when I click PLAY, a little box opens up saying "launching fallout 4" then the box disappears and nothing else happens.

the same thing occurs when I attempt to launch the fallout4.exe directly.

if I run the fallout4launcher.exe program, the little launcher window opens with "play, options" etc on the right hand side. I click play, and the same happens, little window states "launching fallout4" but then nothing else happens.

I never get into the game, never hear music, never see character creation, never get anything other than that little "launching fallout4" window that pops up for a second or so, and then it disappears. I've tried all the "fixes" I could find on the internet, I tried the beta, I tried re-installing my graphics drivers (full removal uninstall and then re-install), I've gone through everything possible and nothing so far has worked.

I have even gone so far as ording a new video card to replace my GeForce 650Ti to try that out. I ordered a Geforce 960Ti iGamer windforce from newegg that shoudl arrive today.

I have attached my dxdiag results below

please help, I really want to play and not have simply thrown $60 away for a game I cannot play nor can I return :-(

thank you!

Mike B

Post again after you receive your NVidia 960. That is what I have - and it is perfect for Fallout 4.

Good to see your video drivers up to date. Make sure all other hardware drivers are current too.

Steam should also give you a few play time hours to ask for a refund if it comes to that.

First things first , go to steam and verify integrity of game cach then try it , delete the game re down load it , instaled latest amd or nvidia drivers to the most recent , delete fallout .ini configuration files in my documents my games and make fresh ones , don't have msi or evga presion. Ons screen app on till after the game is a launched , down load from nexus.com fsllout 4 configuration launcher and check full screen and boarder less option . Also shut off any integrated video cards in bios, check the fallout 4 cfg file in my docs my games fo4 folder under render device it should say what video card it's using , make sure it's ur dedicated. I'm out of ideas now lol

tried all that, yes all of that.... nothing :-(

I even went so far as to load fallout4.exe into a debugger to see if something was failing to load.... I couldnt' find a thing :-( It's just plain not working for me.... ::: sigh :::

I'm so bummed... my son says Fallout4 is like Skyrim but with guns :-) I loved Skyrim! Although I haven't played in well over a year or more....

thanks guys! keep the help coming! something has got to work!!

maybe by some stupid miracle the Geforce 960 will make it work....

expensive game... $60 for the game.. and $250 for a video card that *may* make it work...

One thing to check - the standard VRAM configuration for the NVidia 650 Ti is 1GB.

The required VRAM for Fallout 4 is 2GB.

I am not sure how to read your DXDIAG output for VRAM. Lots of display memory figures...

That seems like a pretty important oversight.

Also I don't think there's such thing as a 960ti.. I can confirm it runs fine on a 960 and a 970 though. The VRAM thing would definitely keep it from launching though.

This looks like it's using 2G of VRAM, yes?

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti

Manufacturer: NVIDIA

Chip type: GeForce GTX 650 Ti

DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC

Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11C6&SUBSYS_84471043&REV_A1

Display Memory: 4037 MB

Dedicated Memory: 1989 MB

Shared Memory: 2048 MB

Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Monitor Name: Dell E228WFP

or is there a setting somewhere that I can check to make sure that it's actually *using* 2GB and not just 1GB?

thanks!

What anti-virus are you using? Have you tried running Steam or FO as admin?

Do the ini files show up here: C:\..................\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

Is there anything in the event viewer? Start menu textbox type event viewer.

Look under WIndows logs and check both app and sys logs. You can clear them first. Right click each log and select clear log.

Did the removing nvidia drivers with ddu in safe mode as I recommended solve the problem ? Does this happen in fallout only or other games to ? On a side note have you tryed under clocking the core mhz by about 50 ? Trying to think of last resort idea's with out a reformat

nope, using DDU in sfemode didnt' do the trick.. tried that over the weekend this past weekend ;-(

I'll give it a try to underclock.... there has got to be something missing that it's looking for, this just doesnt' make sense.... I ran fallout4.exe through a debugger and I didnt' see it calling anything that wasn't there, I used sysinternals Process monitor as well, everything appeared ok :-(

thanks for offering suggestions though! I do appreciate it!

Go mow the grass or something; take a break until your new video card arrives. No point debugging a card you are scrapping.
