Random crashes to desktop.

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2016 12:06 am

Played before I went outta town. Came home, loaded up fo4, crashes to desktop every 1 to 15 minutes.

It has run fine since release. Nothing has changed at all since last time I played. No updates, nada.

Gpu is fine. Gtx 970. I5 3.2ghz. 16gb ram. Ssd drives in raid 0.

Again, absolutely nothing has changed, it's my gamer, no extra programs installed, bare OS, only thing installed on the rig is gta v, and fallout 4, steam, and drivers/os.

Needless to say I'm f'ing pissed.

The crashes are completely random. I don't even know we're to start. Event logs in the OS are fine. No 1.3 update yet either. I've run memory tests, hd tests, I can't find a single thing wrong.

If anyone has experienced this and or found a fix please let me know. I'm going to reinstall the os this weekend, sadly I don't think it will make a difference.

Hmm, maybe something has been installed from the internet, or a background program is running that you don't noticed it.

You could try a clean boot.

...after the above, start Fallout 4 normally!

Also it would be a good idea to play (offline) for now.

After you do the above post, try other demanding games, normally games like the Witcher 3 if it is a psu issue can cause the same thing happen as the gpu is svcking lots of power to keep up FPS. I had this happen when my PSU was starting to go out last month. At first it was Fallout 4, game would just close no reason, then it was my system would just shut down, then it started happening in the Witcher 3 and GTA V.

I finally found an article that mentioned playing offline fixed it. I will try before os reinstall.

This machine is solely for gaming, there are basically four programs installed, fallout 4, gtaV, steam, and avg. also drivers and Logitech software. That is it.

I shut the pic down after playing, it never sits idle, or "on" for updates to install by themselves. Last Windows update was early last month, and I've played allot since then with no problems. Just have no idea why out of the blue it'd just start ctd on me.

I loaded up gtaV and played for about three hours, no issue.

I appreciate the input from everyone also, I've been gaming since doom, and don't recall a more frustrating gaming experience (I opted out of buying bf4 to save some headaches, as I was smart and read the issues before hand). I even had great luck with fallout new vegas, my luck stick musta run dry recently :)

I wasted about five hours of my life trying to diagnose it, granted some of the time was glancing over while mem tests ran, etc. but it's still five hours I'll never get back, and it isn't fixed yet.

I also have not tried reverting back to an older save. I'll give that a shot also. Offline and older save are the only things left basically, here's hoping one works.

So I uninstalled all my mods, verified cache, tested, everything worked great.

Re-installed all my mods, crashes still occurred.

So I started uninstalling mods one by one starting with what I thought would most probably cause conflicts (gameplay changes).

After uninstalling http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/218/?, I have yet to have a CTD.

That's a dang shame, since that's one of my favorite mods.
