Help with my Heavy Weaponsmelee build

Post » Sun Feb 07, 2016 8:45 am

Hey guys can anyone with heavy weapons experience help me out? I am finding that if you just go heavy and melee you have a serious ranged issue until you get a Missile Launcher that has the lock on upgrade. Heavy weapons has zero precision fire long distance weapons. Would be cool if they gave heavy weapons some type of heavy caliber rifle. How do you guys deal with this issue in the early game? Right now I don't even bother I just use chems (playing an Fallout type of Paladin chems are my "buffs" lol) close the distance and super sledge every thing. I save my missiles for suiciders. The minigun even at medium ranges is crapola. and I don't have access to the Gatling Laser yet but its obviously inaccurate at long ranges. and I am heavily using PA so the ammo count bug thing is annoying and well until the late game where I have heaps of caps doubling the use of Fusion Cores is semi risky (even with the Nuclear Physicist Perk which I have).

Actually I just thought of the Cryolater. As usual with heavy weapons I am assuming the ammo is a pain the [censored] to come by but whats it like with range? Can it at least be used at medium distances? Is it a rifle type shot with a straight trajectory or does it arc?

PS nevermind just found out the dogmeat trick with the Cryolater is a bug that has been fixed.

Cryolater ammo is insane cost per shot wise. Minigun svcks due to low damage per shot versus much higher enemy armor ratings. Gatling laser isn't worth it until you find or can craft (with science 4 at level 41) the charging barrels mod which slows the rate of fire but greatly boosts damage per shot and increases accuracy. With that mod you get more damage for you money than pretty much any other ammo. If you get 1000 shots per core with max nuclear physicist perk, and each shot does nore than 100 damage with perks, you have a pretty cost effective weapon.

My power armor melee/ big guns character had the same issue. I just used a plasma rifle or laser rifle, and a super sledge.

Edit: minigun with legendary explosive or bleed damage effects are awesome fyi. Also, legendary weapoms with explosive damage, and missile launchers and their like benefit from their relevant gun perk AND the demolitions expert perk combined.

Ya I actually haven't picked up a ranged weapon perk yet I have enough PER for Rifleman so I just think I will go with a Laser Rifle. I LOVE heavy weapons but it seems that the only general purpose one is the Missile Launcher and even then at long distances it cant be counted on without the Lock uograde. The Flamer is good for close ranged but I don't need a gun for close range as I am heavy melee with Rooted and big leaguer so everything that's in my face get destroyed almost instantly with a super sledge.

cryolator is useless for anything but equipping settlers. Super expensive flame thrower with extremely rare/expensive ammo.

Focus on defense (or stealth) and don't sweat range. With melee, you can be near unstoppable as long as you can close the distance. I'd suggest you focus heavy weapons (and explosives) for crowd control. A few Enemies from afar aren't as bad as a lot of enemies all around you.

the cryolator is my weapon of choice while going against the mega nastys. need to reach level 47 to get its perks maxed out. this weapon is as strong as the alien blaster was in FO3. few enemies can stand up to all the vats shots. if ammo was very plentiful for it it would be over powered.

the gatling laser, the one that can be bought aboard the blimp, comes with most mods all ready installed. another selling point is free almost unlimited ammo for it. when i get it i have between 30 and 50 fusion cores. i am constantly switching weapons. when i use it again, it is fully charged. almost unlimited ammo...the clip slowly goes down. i don't use the PC often. so far i haven't had to buy fusion cores.

the last minute is a good sniper rifle which comes with most mods installed. i use it to take down nastys at long range. i use its scope to shoot outside vats range.

missile launcher and the fat man benefit from both heavy weapon and explosive perks. right now i have a legendary missile launcher that does extra damage against SMs.

i think one weapon just isn't good enough. the fat man is the strongest but you will kill yourself when fighting close range.
