Like plastic models.
It's sad to see em this bad.

They look fine to me, especially Dogmeat. Though of course graphics will not be nearly as refined on PS4/XB1 compared to max settings on PC.
I'm on pc with ultra-high settings
every thing mostly looks great but the hair/fun just looks bad to me
oh well - love the game though!!
But max settings on the PC lead to all kinds of issues, bugs and glitches, yes?
I find that Dogmeat looks good on Xbox 1 as well on the PC.
Either way, they look bad. Like they did in Skyrim too.
Beth make a good game but a hairy or furry animal, no.
Dogmeat may be an exception as he is a companion but the other animals are plastique.
I think they look quite good, Only issue might be with the wetness from time to time
Hmmm. what would be a good example of good looking fur 3d graphic object?
Possibly from another game?
In FO4, all we got is Dogmeat, other dog, YaoGuai & Radstag...
Clearly developers didn`t care very much to make them look so... snuggle.
No. Probably best to have a 780 or 980 however.
Wouldn't that be a great band name: "Hair Physics"
I play on the PC with textures at ultra and on the PS4. I think they look good on both. If you dislike them and have some artistic talent you could learn to texture and make something more to your liking, or if you don't think you could do any better than Beth's done you can wait for someone in the modding community to do it. If it hasn't been done yet, someone will get to it eventually.
I thought you were talking about Danse. I thought they look fine. Graphic is not really beth's strong suit. It doesn't matter much to me though
One thing I'll add to this conversation is that, like water and fire, hair and fur are textures that have proven to be difficult to realistically render in CG. Look at the range of CG movies and other video games, and you'll see that it's been a struggle. Granted, there are movies and video games that make hair and fur look downright amazing, but it still is a difficult, finicky texture to handle, based on observation.
That's my thought on the general topic.
I'm talking about the bears/deer-things/Brahmins - things like that. They don't look textually hairy or furry - rather like plastic models. I agree though, this sort of thing is hard to do well in CG.
Makes me think of The Witcher 3. Hairworks was a thing of beauty
Seeing as how they already implement HBAO+ and some form of Physx with the weapon decals, I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda also implements Hairworks in a future update.
It was, but killed performance on AMD. Nvidia oh Nvidia, i hate you so. On topic though, i don't think any of the models look bad at all, but different standards and all that.
