I had high hopes when I saw the patch downloading today, and there are some cool improvements I'm seeing, especially with the settler info. But alas, PRESTON IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE as a companion. This could be the best video game ever made, so why o why not fix this reall game-limiting bug?? I have heard that that MANY people are experiencing this, I've even seen youtube videos where the exasperating "I've got your back General" (but I'm not gonna let you talk to me...) situation is documented!


Does anyone have a clue how to nudge Preston back in the game!?A workaround, anything to get Preston available as a companion. Please.PLEASE Bethesda, fix the Preston Garvey bug! He has not been available as a companion for most of the game, and my stats say I'm over 50% through it. I took him along at the beginning, but he was not my companion for taking back the castle. He was present for that, as it's part of the plot, but ever since he has been in Sanctuary where I'd sent him previously, and I get no dialogue choices with him, so he is NOT AVAILABLE AS A COMPANION. This is very frustrating as my (now level 36!) character is siding with the minutemen (and I think she has a thing for him...). He still gives settlement quests, but when I try to get him to dialogue he simply says, "I've got your back" etc, and no dialogue available. So no way to get him to follow.

I had exactly the same issue but resolved it before the patch by doing everything I could to get the power at The Castle settlement to green. I scrapped the water purifier and as many lights as possible then built enough small generators to turn the power rating from red to green.

After doing this Preston's dialogue options returned.

Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me. However, I did this immediately after completing The Castle quest.

My power has been fine in the Castle for a long time, but thanks for the data. I've heard a lot of different things that seem to have fixed it for some people. A friend who is at the same level in the game has had the same problem, then suddenly it resolved and Preston would travel with him., right after one of the settlement quests. I've been doing every quest Preston gives, and still nothing. It must be some strange combination of factors that no one will ever figure out... So it would be very nice if it was ....just....fixed...

My friend had left Preston at the castle when he got stuck, I'd left him at Sanctuary. Don't know if that made a difference, just more data...

Yeah, same problem for me. No dialogue options after Castle. I can't remember if he was my companion on that quest or not. I haven't tried to talk to him since the patch so I'm keeping my fingers crossed since it mentions fixing him in the Update list. Alas maybe that fix only applies to people going through the Castle quest the first time
