I know this has probably been asked a million times.

But mods for console? release date? I googled it the most I could find was early 2016 and I was just told it's coming next update, sorry if it's a dumb question.

Not a dump question at all.

If I remember correctly I think I have read somewhere on a browse-by that mods for console players will not be available before the Creation Kit has been released, which will be available for PC only. The article also said that XBox will be first of the consoles to gain access to mods, then PS4. And as far as I remember it was an official statement from Bethesda.

However, I have no source available as it's no longer in my browser's history, sorry.

I imagine it will be some time after the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/G.E.C.K._%28editor%29 is released for Fallout 4.

Were you really expecting a Dev to come in here and say "Thursday February 26 at 12:38 pm PST"?

Yes, I expect them to say precisely that. Especially the omission of the year.

It's gonna be a while. The creation kit for PC has to be released first. I'm guessing that the creation kit will come next, then the first round of DLC, and then mod support for consoles.

what has to be approved anyway? stability issues?

ps4 code to the public?

???

so i take it that only pc users will be able to create mods, right? that svcks.

so then, users may be able to charge for mods while beth gets a cut! this is branching into that other thread now, so i digress...

I want to know...Can I create a mod on my PC using GECK and then transfer it my XB1 without going through Bethesda.

You have to use a PC to create Fallout 4 mods, but the system used to install mods is not known. Microsoft and Sony will have their own systems to download and upload mods to mod servers, but it is not known if it can be bypassed. Although, I am certain that some players will find a way to get around it since they won't like the restrictions that Microsoft and Sony will have on certain mods. Can't use lightsabers and a Darth Vader mod for console mods.

A reasonable question still. I think the first thing players should know that have no experience with adding mods is that Bethesda has to publish the GECK prior to any mods being release for console. The GECK is the official mod toolkit for FO, and the Creation Kit is the official tool kit for Elder Scrolls.

Some may say, well there are mods being released on Nexus like crazy and there is no toolkit out yet, why can't I use them?. All true, but those mods are solely created using third party software programs and require file editing by the player in the .ini files of the Fallout 4 game files to use them. There is no way to alter game files on consoles, and I think MS and Sony would do cheetah flips if you ever tried. Also, mods will have to be uploaded to Xbox Live and Sony PlayStation Network. There will be no way to simply download from Nexus or the Steam Workshop, click the DL button, install and simply play. MS and Sony will have to have an approval process to determine what mods are "safe" for console use, so it may still take some time even after the GECK is released.

I think it might be prudent for console users to take an appetite suppressant regarding mods, because not all will be available, especially texture mods, or any mods that rely on extensive scripting. I'm no expert, but I can foresee a ton of issues with certain mods going on closed systems like an Xbox One or PS4...and to be honest I think that is what is taking Bethesda so long to get the GECK released this time around.

The GECK (for FO) is absolutely necessary for proper mod development/integration to eliminate problems. So when you hear of Bethesda releasing the GECK, that will the first hurdle crossed in getting mods to console. Until then, there is simply no way for consoles to get mods. So, be on the lookout for the Toolkit being released...then wait for further info.

Seriously, there is still no new official information in regards to the GECK? Just through us a bone here Bethesda, the silence is deafening...
