Corpses Disappear after VATS battle?

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 10:34 pm

One thing that infuriates me is when I have a battle in VATS and kill something, and it shows me clearly where the body fell, and then when I come out of VATS the body isn't anywhere near that location. What the heck?! Usually I find it way far away from where the battle took place, but sometimes I can't find it at all. It's really frustrating when you're looking forward to looting the body, but the stupid VATS seems to operate in an alternate reality.

I'm guessing others have experienced this oddity as well?

not necessarily VATS kill, but I have experienced bodies disappearing before after fight.

It has been explained away as a glitch in that the bodies seem to fall through the ground layer of rendered graphics.

sometimes you may see a tiny portion of the body that you can still loot. Other times, it is just sunk too deep to get.

I've seen some cases of enemies I shoot down in vats clipping the textures of the floor. I can still find a piece of them and lift them up over it but kinda annoying(i'm still on 1.2 patch btw)

Shame they can't make those bodies near pickmans gallery of sanctuary disappear :(

I've seen that too, but what I'm talking about is slightly different. Like yesterday, I shot a bloat fly, and clearly saw it hit a wall and fall to the ground in VATS. When I came out of VAT, I went over there, and there wasn't even a trace of the bloat fly. And I never did find the body. If it had been a legendary that disappeared, I'd have been pi$$ed.

I wish there was a VATS option (a perk, perhaps) that highlighted corpses. I'd far prefer that to having VATS highlight my allies. It can be maddening trying to find corpses sometimes.

I only see this problem with bugs (insects) both in and out of VATS

I found two variants of this problem.

1. Body is still there but invisible... you can still loot it... if you spot that invisible piece. (can happen to anything rarely)

2. Certain parts disappear and certain parts remain.. (happen mostly to insects)

...yeah there are some problems especially when you end up fighting 10 enemies in settlement defense and everything flies everywhere.

I've seen the insect thing - I've actually watched portions of a bloat fly disappear right before my eyes. But the main part with the wings is still there.

However, the issue I'm talking about isn't the body that's sunk into the ground (which I've seen a few times), or the much-of-the-insect-parts disappearing. I wish I'd have recorded it, because in VATS I could see the body slam into a wall, and thud straight down to the ground, and I could see the body laying there. Then VATS closed, and I ran straight to that spot, only to discover that you'd have never know a battle took place - not a trace.

And this happens fairly frequently - it makes me CRAZY!

I'm not sure why what I see in VATS doesn't match what's not in VATS.

I don't use VATS however on numerous occasions i have killed something, watched it die at a certain spot but it's not there when i go to loot it.

It can disappear and turn up some distance away.

Occasionally i see the corpse drop from the sky.

Other times it seem to disappears underground and pop up elsewhere, or can not be found.

Perhaps your bug really bounced off the wall and flew miles away which VATS didn't catch or was hit with such force that it was forced trough the wall.

I remember seeing a deathclaw do that to a Behemoth.

Gave him a swipe and drove him underground.

Perhaps I should clarify. In VATS, I get red returns (enemies) and green returns (those are the ones I was calling "allies"). Since I travel 100% alone, I don't know if VATS targets companions, which is what I assume you were referring to when you said "allies". I was using the term "allies" to mean anyone who isn't hostile to me.

In any event, I'd be perfectly happy with a VATS trade-off. I'll give up targeting "non-hostiles" in exchange for targeting corpses. Knowing where the corpses are is much more valuable to me than knowing where non-hostiles are.

As long as a mine is still considered a "hostile". Using VATS to make my way through a mine field is extremely valuable.

If you color hud is green then yes they'll appear allies. Since I have mine as white as it's better on the eyes that's where they appear non hostile.
