Patch - I really don't want to start anew...

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 1:36 pm

So I have just downloaded 526MB of patchwork to my XB1 and in the settings screen it is now showing me:

v 1.3.47.0.0

Buuuut does anyone know yet (I know it is early as it has only just been released for consoles) if XB1 & PS4 need to start anew game (or it be advisable to)???

I don't want to as I have put a lot of time into my current savegame, but on the other hand I don't want to find my current go has been screwed up in anyway nor do I want to miss out on any of the patch stuff if my current game does not make use of them.

There should be no reason to start a new game just for a patch. Unless you had some game stopping bug in a quest and the patch did not resolve it.

I personally start a character after all the patching is done anyway, they probably won't be done with patching for a couple of months at least. However in the meantime I am enjoying my current characters.

Playing on Xbox 1 (level 40) and with the new patch.

No signs of trouble so far, having loaded saves.

As there is a fix for weapons traders (not standing by their store)

I noticed that the game had 'forgotten' which storekeepers were assigned where,

but that was a 5 minute task to reassign and the assignment flags are very helpful.

From my perspective, no necessity to be concerned.

I'm playing as before.

I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you encountered some kind of bug that's preventing you from progressing in the game (and are still unable to after the patch), then I see no reason to. Keep in mind that there are going to be more patches coming over the next few months.

Well I am just 10 minutes into my saved game and I have found my game has been screwed in one way already.

I am Lvl24 but I only ever Craft and Trade at Diamond city so far. To this end I always keep ALL of my junk (and I am talking a MASSIVE stockpile of all manner of junk) stored in the yellow PA station.

I arrive and take it all

I craft and trade

I restore it back at the PA station

I leave Diamond City

My last (most recent) 2 saves last night were in Diamond City and I had just arrived and so I am stood at the bottom of the entrance stairs in both saves.

Both saves though now have wiped clean all my hundreds of Junk stockpile from the PA station..... totally empty!

So then I fast travelled to Red Rocket station to check my Grenade\Weapons stash in the Red cabinet next to the PA station there with tons of Grenades Mines a Fatboy some spare Weapons and the JunkJet - again totally empty!

Seems I haven't been so lucky as you, and quite annoyed about this.

The patches rarely introduce game breaking bugs. If things were fine before, they should be fine now. If you do see weirdness, fast-travel well out of that cell, rest for ~10 in-game days, then return. Oddities from patches will often be rectified once cells have had a chance to completely refresh.

_______________

In response to your post above -- this is what I mean by "weirdness".

Place 1 new object in the workbench, then close it. If no good, remove that object and close it. The inventory is still there. It just needs to be refreshed.

These are things that will become all too common after years of Bethesda titles...

if you mean that PA station OUTSIDE of your locked house, the entirety of the city will most likely have access. that is how it works in other settlements, but DC is a little different. But if they do access, they could be stealing from you!

I'm going to start anew anyhow. Yes, I have Melinda at over 80 and have completed the main quests but there's still a lot to do, but, I just want to start fresh. Or maybe I'll play ESO... Nah....

Well I tried all kinds of things and none of my stuff has returned.

Decided to follow in Melinda's footsteps and start fresh after careful consideration that this was my first playthrough.... considered ESO too

Nah!!!

Just continued with my current character. No need to restart. Considered ESO. Lag said no.

I've had that before, that PA is outside of a settlement and far as I'm concerned should not be considered to safe.

I think it is a spawning point used for power armor frame purchase.

The patch may have triggered a cell refresh, but nothing that would not happen at some point, I suspect.

So PA Station like in my Red Rocket settlement is safe as it is my settlement (albeit not developed) but the PA station inside the walls of DC in the corner near Noodles bar and Myrna or whatever her name is that hates synths and her stuff isn't junk (despite she sells Junk under her Junk Tab lol) - that is a dodgy place to store stuff?

If you don't have game breaking issues there should be no reason to.

That's my understanding, I lost a suit of T-51 at KL-E-O's for example...

Would be interesting if others could confirm.

I have a level 85 and i'm considering starting again because I am still not getting any random encounters like the main ones like the dirty Larry. Was working for awhile at the start of my 2nd save character, but from what I read through a google search people said it is something to do with energy weapons?

Does anyone have a list of the available in the game so I can try to avoid them for my next play through please?

Nvm, I just found what I needed in regards of weapons.

Didn't resolve it? You mean like Desdemono STILL BEING BUSY IN UNDERGROUND UNDERCOVER.... I swear.... I have been waiting SOOOOOOOOO damned long for this patch and the notes tease that it is fixed and when I load it up... she still ignores me.... I load up an earlier save and go through several missions prior to it and get to the same point AND SHE STILL IGNORES ME.

Worst non-patch-fix EVER!

I've been loading up old saves trying to find one where I can go forward and the bug not happen... but I have now gone back as far as 15 levels lower character level and I still get the bug happen after I do the missions. Depressed to say the least.

I hate patches that say they fixed something and then find they don't. I think I'm just going to give the game a break and then start from scratch. Level 81 and then can't progress due to a game breaking bug and then get promised a fix only to find it a lie... wonderful work there Bethesda. This is worse than the promise of cake from a certain AI.

I wonder what's causing it? It doesn't seem like something a lot of people are experiencing. I hope you find a way around it.

Back to the OP,

I promise you your workbench inventory is still there. Unless you did something to alter the state of your workbench in-game (which would have required mods or the use of the command console...unlikely on XB1), you simply need to force the game to refresh the inventory display at the workbench.

I can't be 100% sure, but I am betting that this is simply the game engine exceeding an overflow limit for data bytes to be displayed for containers. It was a bug in Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim if you grossly exceeded the maximum weight limit for containers in the game. You needed to REMOVE ALL to force the game to repopulate the display.

If it's the same bug here, when you "remove all" it will remove all of the overflow, and you'll see the workbench populate with the remaining items. The rest of the inventory will be in your character inventory. Place everything you wish back into the Workbench, and you should see everything again. That should fix the shared inventories for all workbenches on a supply chain. Worst-case scenario is that you'll need to do that for each workbench you own, but I doubt that's necessary.
