Paladin Danse and Power Armor

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 5:43 pm

So, I just started using Paladin Danse as a companion, and I noticed he can not carry nearly as much as my other companions in Power Armor. Therefore, I assume that even though he looks like he comes with a set of Power Armor, he does not get the carry weight bonus other companions do when you manually command them to enter a Power Armor frame. If that is the case, then I assume he also doesn't get the other benefits to wearing a Power Armor frame, like increased Strength, etc. I tried to manually command him to enter a regular Power Armor frame, but he can't do it. Seems silly to me that he doesn't get the same bonuses from wearing Power Armor that other companions do. I'd like to use him, since I've always been a fan of the Brotherhood of Steel, but no way am I going to use him if he can't carry loads of junk like other companions can!

Now I've noticed that while Paladin Danse can't enter a Power Armor frame, I can equip Power Armor pieces on him (torso, helmet, arms, legs.) However, after finishing a quest and engaging in combat several times along the way, none of the pieces equipped on Danse took any durability loss... Can a developer explain exactly what is going on behind the scenes with Danse's armor? This is just my opinion, but if Danse comes with Power Armor, I think he should get the same bonuses as any other companion for wearing a Power Armor frame, and equipping individual Power Armor pieces on him should have the same effect as with other companions also. Either that, or allow players to command Danse to manually enter a Power Armor frame to get the bonuses like any other companion.

DO NOT CHANGE DANSE"S POWER ARMOR

He starts in power armor, and getting him to remove it is very difficult, so he probably already has it unless you did something strange.

Power armor pieces have no weight when they are equipped, and Danse cannot put his original armor on once it is removed, as it is invisible, and the player cannot effect it, meaning it sits in his inventory at full wight and simply put cripples his carry weight.

His default is t-60 with infinite durability, and as durability is the most important stat on power armor, is the best in the game, even max Xo-1 is a downgrade, on top of penalizing his weight forever.

EDit,

His helmet can be changed, as he does not wear his, but beyond this do not change any of his power armor pieces,

He has 210 carry weight, more than any other companion, in part due to his power armor's unique paint providing a strength bonus without the helmet, and being unbreakable,

changing any one non helmet piece breaks this special strength bonus, reducing his carry weigh by 5, and adding the weight of the piece permanently, reducing by a minimum of 15, and if you change all pieces reduces his max carry weight to 125, less than any other companion (150 for dogmeat), which can not be restored.

That makes sense.

I wish I knew this earlier... lol

My Danse is stuck in the armor I gave to him. T60f Vault-tec color.

Anyway patch 1.03 still allows lone wanderer perk to work with dogmeat... so I don`t think I will bother taking anyone else with me..

Thanks for the detailed reply! I already equipped him with Power Armor pieces, so I'll unequip them (but leave the helmet) and see what happens. Hopefully, I didn't screw him up! >.<

I unequipped the Power Armor pieces I had on him, and now it just looks like Danse is wearing a Power Armor frame. So I guess the invisible armor pieces you were talking about are sitting in his inventory, and his carry weight is now screwed! DEVELOPERS: please fix this silly, silly glitch with Paladin Danse. I want to use him as a companion, but there is no way I can use him with his now-crippled carry weight!

I believe the bug works that removing power armor and leaving him long enough simply clones a new set, leaving to old one still in his inventory taking up space, and putting armor on again will reduce his carry weight by another possible 80, meaning he becomes near useless.

Oh boy (facepalm) that is just awful! I guess I'll equip the pieces on him again. Calibrated legs should help his carry weight a bit at least.

I gotta ask how Bethesda can overlook a problem like this when they were programming a character named 'DANSE'

I`m not a programmer, but it does not take a genius or professional to be able to foresee such problem. Sigh.

Oh, by the way, MisguidedWorm7, do you happen to know why the Power Armor pieces I equip on him do not take Durability loss? Because that makes me think that they are not truly equipped on him at all :-/

He has a special perk, his power armor frame has magic that means armor on it takes no damage.

When it chooses to work

I don't get why we can't just get him to enter or exit his own power armor or anyone else's. I'd actually use him more if I could get him out of power armor and put him in normal gear (I don't like how power armor makes the camera jump so I don't like to use it or have my companions use it save for really dangerous situations). I'd also like to customize his armor. If they're worried the player will just steal his armor... I've got like 10 suits of power armor in the game without looking hard for them, I don't care about getting one more. I just want to equip him like I can equip everyone else.

All of that.

Surely it would have been easier to program a companion wearing power armor than one who is attached to it? (don't know much about programming but this seems to be how they went about it)

This has been an issue with Beth for a long time. No matter how much players complain about it they love to give companions items you cannot remove if you play on the console.

You can get him out of his PA on the PC (and get him to romance without completing BB). I always take him out of his PA because he's so loud in it. I've used him to steal Power Armor. He'd be mad if I did it, but I can tell him to get in and he will, although then I have to use the console to get him out of the new one. It's a nuisance and I don't know why they chose to do that with him knowing we PC players would do our best to get him out of it. When he's running around in regular clothes he still complains about water and what it will do to his PA.

That's not a glitch, so it won't be changed by a patch. The fact that Dogmeat doesn't count for the Lone Wanderer perk is sort of like his companion perk, since he doesn't have a direct companion perk like Piper, Nick, Danse, and so on.
