What is the point of TVs?

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 11:58 am

So what is the point of adding TVs to settlements? There are NO TV broadcasts!

It's a stupid waste of resources. I get the appeal of radios and jukeboxes. I always add them (making sure to leave the jukebox's audio OFF and the radios ON!).

So why would your PC or the settlers want to stare at the blank TV or test pattern?

There isn't one as far as I can tell.

Maybe they're planning a DLC in the future? There are, apparently, a lot of satellites still up there and we know that there are a couple of TV studios ready to go.

Hmm...

BTW: Just where is that "Stand By" message coming from? Shouldn't you just be getting static?

That'd be interesting if they were planning a use for them in DLC. Also, I found myself wondering where that broadcast was coming from as well. Some old Pre-War system out there must still be ticking over on auto.

Don't they help with settler happiness? Or is that misinformation I read somewhere lol.

Would be nice to see a certain someone you save from a certain tower given an extended quest to start a TV broadcast. Could be a nifty mini-quest added in DLC somewhere (assuming one DLC will concentrate on Boston).

Use your imagination that some program is on. If there are people doing radio broadcasts, it's not that far of a leap that TV broadcasts are also being done. And I'm sure someone will make animations or something like that once the GECK is released.

I would love for the TV to be able to play a movie or something along those lines from my PC. I would do it even if I had to convert the movie files to some obscure format for it to be possible.

HaHa! That is a great mod!!! *wipes away a tear*

But yea, that is exactly what the TVs are for, so the mod community can have a whole new kind of fun!

What else are the non pip boy wearing NPCs going to watch those Holo Tapes on?

Which reminds me, why are they called Holo Tapes if all we do is get to listen to them? We never get to see the Holograms.

I guess it adds flavor to your home like lighting a candle but with a tv screen. It might be nothing more than a night light. I place tvs in every home in sanctuary for my settlers just for sh and giggles... makes it homely. :P

Here's hoping they do a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UVB-76 sort of thing with televisions. You glance at a TV, see the "Please Stand By" thing, then all of a sudden it goes to static and you hear a message (possibly in Chinese). The TV reverts back to normal and you never hear the message again, but a new quest pops up in your journal...

Who knows.....you might stumble across an 'after dark special' holotape to watch on the tube. :hubbahubba:

I love some dlc like that, maybe centered around a certain gunner controlled building.

They're essentially pointless currently. I've always scrapped them and never built one. My only guess is that they'll be somehow involved in DLC.

If there is not a mod for that yet, there will be once the editor comes out. I would wait for the editor myself as the Music Mods in the past have caused weird issues and you want them to be stable and made on some thing that is designed for the game.
