S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Abilities: Pros & Cons in Fallout: Shelte

An official response to this would be great as there is conflicting information all over the net.

Other than the room management bonuses explained in the Pip-B, what else do these stats affect? We know luck affects potential cap rewards but is there anything else?

According to the other thread here:

"Each SPECIAL stat increases a Dweller's effectiveness in the wasteland in its own way."
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1521786-enhanced-vault-dwellers-survival-guide/

So there's something to it.

I also found this but no source was listed:

Strength: Decreased timer while working in power plants

Perception: Hit chance in combat

Endurance: Health points (inside or outside vault)

Charisma: Reduced time to getting women pregnant. Also chance of befriending people in the wastes (Gives the xp but no damage taken)

Intelligence: Med-bay (Stims and Radaway) production timers

Agility: Food production timer

Luck: Amount of loot found outside vault, also amount of caps earned when work completed (also random whenever you make the caps)

That is from the loading screen. So it's from Bethesda. However, I doubt they will share the exact details with us.

I think each stat affects whether they will survive a particular challenge in one piece.. charisma good against raiders cus might be able to talk them down ect luck can sometimes save them and various other things likely based on their stats.

Agility affect chances of taking damage. The rest I agree is my observations too.

i'm pretty sure

STR : shortens timers in power rooms

i suspect it increase combat capability somehow

it helps outside in the wasteland(?)

PER: shortens timers in water rooms

combat effectiveness(?)

END: higher health(?)

also the storage room seems to be tied to endurance, for what purpose i do not know

however, when i get the quest that says "put x number of people in the right room" if i put someone with high endurance in the storage room it counts toward the quest

CHA: helps in the radio room

shortens the radio room timer

possibly increases the chance of calling a new dweller(?)

makes couples get pregnant faster

helps in the wasteland(?)

INT: shortens timers to craft stimpacks and rad away

helps in the wasteland(?)

AGI: shortens the timers in the dining hall

possible combat related(?)

helps in the wasteland(?)

LUK: the most interesting in my opinion

luck increases the chance to get bonus caps when you collect from a room

i womder if it increases the chance of finding good items in the wasteland.

i have 6 people trained for exploring. one of them is scribe rothchild i got from a lunchbox. he has high luck.

the other 5 people usually bring back low end outfits and rusty guns with 0-1 0-2 1 1-2 damage ratings

but scribe rothchild seems to always find guns with 6-7 damage within 2-4 hours. he also seems to alaways find more stuff than everyone else

i discovered that luck reduces the failure rate of room rushing. the higher your luck, the easier it is to room rush. i just reached 50 dwellers and made a large game room and a medium game room and have 10 dwellers in there training up to 10 luck. i also pulled a +7 luck formal suit from a lunchbox. if i equip that suit on anyone, their failure rate drops 10%. it makes the game wayyy less frustrating.

my current strategy is i have 1 person in each resounrce room all by themself. then i make a circuit, i pass around the lucky suit to each guy and room rush a couple oof times then take it off and put it on the next guy. i can usually average 1 or 2 success for each room in one sitting...most of the time i go in and the failure rate is 6% then 16% then 26%, i usually stop after the 16% because even at 26% i seem to fail half the time

I'd really like to know more about the effects of SPECIAL stats in the wasteland too. I find it odd that they aren't shown on the screen when viewing dwellers progress in the wasteland (only the SPECIAL stats of armor are shown). I know that a dwellers level determines their health in the Wasteland from a tip in the loading screen. That said, here's my impression of how it works so far;

Strength (Power Room):

  • vault bonus - I'd assume increased melee damage?

  • wasteland - No idea.

Perception (Water Room):

  • vault bonus - Weapon handling.

  • wasteland - Weapon handling.

Endurance (Storage Room):

  • vault bonus - ???

  • wasteland - I'd guess carrying capacity? Although I've never hit a carrying limit.

Charisma (Radio Room):

  • vault bonus - Makin' babies.

  • wasteland - I'd guess influences the rewards from helping people ie. fugitive slave/wounded sheriff.

Intelligence (Medbay/Science Lab):

  • vault bonus - ???

  • wasteland - ???

Agility (Diner):

  • vault bonus - I'd assume it effects your chances of dodging attacks.

  • wasteland - I'd assume it reduces the damage taken when fleeing an enemy?

Luck:

  • vault bonus - Chance of caps during rush.

  • wasteland - I'd assume it adds a higher chance of finding caps in the wasteland too.

I wish the 'help' guide in game was a little more thorough.
