Share Your Vault Layout

After several less than great starts, I've found a layout that works for me.

This forum won't allow links which is weird since all my other game forums do. I put the image on imgur. But I can't post it here. Wow. Anyway to see the image copy the next line and remove the spaces.

The right side of a central elevator shaft has the three main production systems.

Water

I put a 3 room water center at the top since P (perception) is the key stat and it also seems to be tied to the use of guns. So when raiders hit they find a room with 6 high perception, fully armed dwellers to make sausage out of them. After many raids i see that this is a good set up. No raider has made it past that room.

Power

I put power next with a 3 room set up and all my high S (strength) dwellers here. I upgrade power first.

Food

I put a 3 room diner on the next level and upgraded it last.

Medical

I put medical on the left with room for a full 3 room suite

Living Quarters

Placed on left with a 3 room suite

Science

On the left with room for a full 3 room suite. I don't need as much rad-away so I've updated it last.

Radio Station

I put a Radio Station on the right under main production an got a high C (charisma) from a lunchbox working the radio with another boosted C dweller. So far after a few hours they have brought in 2 new dwellers.

I have no problem with water, power or food even if I leave the game running for hours. I have not out-grown my production and have 2 people out in the wastes at all times. I have at 2 expectant mothers at all times but no more than that as I want to control the growth of the vault and keep up with the resource needs.

Notes

Putting the production rooms together helps a lot. I get good results and it's easier to manage where I put people. I'm not having the hunt for small power rooms all over the place and shuffle people all over the map.

It was painful though. The mandatory tutorial at the start makes you put rooms in dreadful places so you have to eat a lot of caps destroying rooms to get a better layout. But the reward is a good foundation to build on.

I keep the single elevator shaft at least one level below my current needs so I can quickly build out new section in an orderly fashion.

To the right of the water, power and food centers is enough room for another full suite of each one which will allow me to keep building on the same production layout for future growth.

What layouts have been working for you?

To screen Cap on an iPhone, get the screen the way you want it then:

  1. Press and hold the Home Button (big round button at the bottom of the phone)

  2. Tap the Sleep (power) button on the upper right of the phone.

The screen will flash and you will have a screen shot in your Photo folder.

Strange that this forum does not allow img tags. All my other game forums do and they have a thriving community of users. I can't imagine the Borderlands forum without in-line images of guns and gear.

This is my current vault. It's my first run but I'm sitting at 173 dwellers, 50 of which are currently exploring.

How did you get a link in? Every time I put one in it says links are not allowed.

That looks great. I don't recognize all of the rooms since I have not gotten that far yet. Do you really only have the one diner feeding that many dwellers? Are some of the rooms the nuclear power plants? Are any of them training rooms? I wonder how valuable training is to production.

I have one diner, a garden, and two nuka cola factories feeding everyone. Training is important for sure, it's something to emphasize later though, now it's going to be one of my main focuses.

Awesome. I did not know about the gardens or that the nuka added to food production.

They function on endurance and are a generator of both food and water.

wow, i never would have that setup would work...how are you sustaining 173 dweller with so few rooms?

i have only 60 dwellers and i had to build 17 power rooms, 8 diners and 8 water treatments just to sustain them...we are spread so thin, i can only have 1 guy in each room, and the rest are training special stats.

am I playing the game wrong?

I explored a lot and trained a fair bit. The majority of my power workers are 6-10 strength. Currently I have 2 maxed 3 slot power generators and 2 level 2 nuclear reactors that are three slotted as well. I will admit though, that if anything starts to dip, it's power and I'll be looking to boost my power output a bit more next.

I sold my original one, but have developed more training slots down the left side. I have 2 1x3 maxed out strength training rooms and endurance training rooms atm. I'll be building luck next. The other stats I won't really worry about for quite awhile.

Nuka Cola for food and water functioning by Endurance

Nuclear Power plant for power functioning with Strength

Everything is influenced by Luck and is good on everyone

So really, those are the only three stats that matter in the end. Strength and Luck or Endurance and Luck. Of course, in the end it would be beneficial to max everything on everyone but for the forseeable future. I'll be focusing on maxing out those two stats on just about everyone.
