Hello,
I have had contact with Bethesda regarding a couple game breaking bugs.
One involves my pregnant dweller not giving birth, and no new dwellers arriving since a pregnancy is in play. Therefore, I have been stuck at 20 dwellers since about 1 day after release of the game.
Here is my original report, and correspondence from Bethez about this bug:
"Hey guys, fellow Canadian QA tester here. I as of yesterday downloaded and began playing FS on iOS. I ended up putting two dwellers together, and one got pregnant. I have read that the time for a dweller to be birthed is roughly 3-4 hours, and that it's possible no new dwellers will appear until the delivery of the baby dweller.
My issue is that I have had my female dweller pregnant now for the majority part of 24 hours give or take. My population has not expanded due to the pregnancy, and I am unsure what might have caused this issue. She just won't give birth. Find additional info re: what I did with this dweller through gameplay below:
- Placed female and male dweller in living quarters
- Female dweller became pregnant
- After female dweller becoming pregnant, equipped and sent male counterpart to explore the wilds
- Equipped female dweller with various items, including weapons(weapon removed as of 10 minutes ago or so)
-assigned pregnant female dweller to water treatment building while pregnant
- Completed several tasks to earn caps and lunch boxes
- Purchased 3 sets of 5 lunch boxes
- Removed, replanned, and then rebuilt several rooms to accomplish mergings. This includes removing of the original living quarters where conception occurred.
- Recalled male dweller, collected exploration loot
- After observing no birth, placed original male and female dwellers in new rearranged living quarters in attempt to speed up birth.
- Observed no birth taking place, moved male dweller to restaurant to work
- Left pregnant female dweller in living quarters
- Have continued waiting and observing, with no birth as of yet
The QA tester side of me has a hunch that this may have to do with the removal of the original living quarters before the birth took place, but I cannot be sure as I have not had the privilege to test or acclimate myself to this piece of software before going live. I have included a screenshot of my game to show the pregnant dweller. I have also included a screenshot of my to do list item "have a dweller explore for 10 hours" currently at the 4-5 hour mark. While I cannot prove at this point that my pregnant dweller became so before I started this quest, I will be able to send new screenshots at a later time showing the completed timed quest, and the continuing pregnancy of my dweller after that point.
Hopefully this will be able to be resolved quickly, as again I am now at a standstill in my game as my population will no longer grow. Please let me know if I can provide any other info regarding the issue I have been having. I will be happy to provide all that I can."
Here is the response:
"Greetings Overseer!
Thank you for contacting Bethesda Technical Support. We understand you’re experiencing an issue in-game.
Our customers have reported success trying the following methods in getting their pregnant dwellers to give birth:
· Ensure there is a consistent high level of happiness
· Maintain high health levels (and low radiation levels)
· Keep the pregnant dwellers in the residential areas
Continue to try the steps above and your dwellers should be giving birth in no time!"
So that was fine and dandy. I went about doing what the tech support suggested the morning of the response, and within 10 minutes left for an appt. I had wanted to play the game while waiting in the office for my turn, so I was going to see if my pregnant dweller had given birth per the suggestions from support. That's where I ran into the second bug.
The second bug that occurred was that, in the office while waiting and attempting to load the app, I only received the first Pip-Boy thumbs up screen. After that screen shows for a moment, everything goes black, and I am returned to my home screen on my iPhone.
Now, originally I thought that perhaps since I was not on wifi as I had previously been at home, some issue in that regard was keeping me from playing. I also figured that I should try closing the app completely, as well as restart my phone completely. I did both of these things at the next appointment I had, since I had 2 scheduled that day. Even at the new office location, and after having closed the app completely and restarting my phone completely, I still met that mocking thumbs up, followed by a complete black screen, then a return to my home screen.
Here are my correspondences with Bethez regarding the second issue:
"Hey guys,
Just sent an inquiry yesterday about my pregnant dweller who did not, and still hasn't, given birth. Well, while that issue is still unresolved, I was playing my save game while waiting at some appointments. The game loads the initial loading screen, but does not load the cinematic "Bethesda" screen which then loads into the main menu.
I thought that maybe it was the Internet connection, or lack thereof, at my various appointments(I had 2 located about 20 km from each other, maybe more). However, I am home now and still have the same issue with and Internet connection. So now, rather than just not having my population expand in-game, I cannot even get to an in-game state at all.
Apart from changing my location, I have only built an additional 2 elevators and merged 3 radio rooms to make the single large.
Apologies, as my iPhone is not jailbroken. That means I am unable to screencap a video as I can a photo. I would expect a jailbroken phone to encounter more issues than I have already anyway. I have however closed the app completely, restarted my phone entirely, and still am unable to access game content now.
Please let me know if I can provide any other information to resolve this matter. As I am a customer who has paid for content in the game, I am sure that restoring access for me will be a priority."
And the response from Bethez:
"Greetings Overseer!
This issue is NOT resolved. The issue regarding my pregnant woman is still persisting, however the issue at hand now is that I CANNOT ACCESS THE APP AT ALL. This includes from a full closing and restart of the Fallout Shelter App, as well as a full iPhone restart.
I apologize as I included information about my previous issue along with the information of this NEW issue which may have been confusing. I often expound on things too much. However, I have previously worked in customer service for Disney Online Studios Canada, and one thing they did teach and train us to do was to FULLY read the submissions we received.
Whether it was fan ideas from a child for Club Penguin, Fan Art for Pirates of The Carribean Online before it shut down, or billing or account issues with parents, we ALWAYS read our emails and submissions FULLY to ascertain what attention if any was required. Even for fan mail, where no response was required, we still responded. A bit more above and beyond customer service standards, since you really had no obligation to reply to certain inquiries.
I feel I must apologized again as this tone of mine may seem insensitive. I take pride in the work I did before I was laid off from DIsney OSC during cutbacks, and when I see others failing to meet my own personal standards, I can get a bit frustrated and snippy. Especially so, since I've been searching unsuccessfully for the past 3 years to get back into the business(QA specifically though not only limited to). This is not to say I could do your job better, I would never make such an assumption, nor would I think that narcisstically of myself. I do however believe that in this case, the job could have been done better with a full reading instead of perhaps a skimming.
So please, do not take any offense, as I do not mean to give any. I can just sound like a rude [censored] sometimes(can't we all?).
Please reply with additional information or instructions I can complete to again access the full app, which shuts down at the initial Thumbs Up Pip-boy loading screen. It does not progress to the cinematic "Bethesda" screen which then leads into the main menu.
Please note that I would however be disheartened to uninstall the app and lose all progress and purchases(around 20 dollars or so) that have made in the last 72 hours or so when I was able to enjoy it."
