Vault 777 : Dweller Heaven

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 1:39 pm

i made a second vault in my game as a test a couple days ago. someone suggested not merging rooms at all and only using the single sized rooms.

i decided to try it.

in order to keep them from merging, i have to stagger the rooms. to keep them organized, i have them arranged vertically

it didnt start out this way, i built it as i needed it. i'm at 54 dwellers now.

my vault is currently [] is the elevator

i take the Brave New World approach. every dweller is bred for a specific job and that is their job for life...later i may deign to promote one to explorer, if i find that i have enough production and i like their hairstyle.

every dweller gets renamed according to their job

Powerboy/girl 001,2,3

Foodboy/girl

Waterboy/girl

Radioboy/girl

Scienceboy/girl

etc...

i have also have a gate Guardian Boy and a Guardian Girl

(boy/girl because Pipboy)

only the explorers have unique identitites, (they need them out in the wasteland, it wouldn't do for them to introduce themself as Explorer #016)

at 15 dwellers, i got everyone pregnant. my first few free lunchboxes also rewarded me with 4 blue dwellers,

a professor outfit (renamed him Professor Asskicker)

a sci fi fan outfit (renamed him Spock Wannabe)

a ninja (renamed Shadow Knight)

a survivor outfit (renamed Kickass)

i sent them out exploring

i also got a legendary nightwear +7 charisma

i used it in my orgy.

6 hours later, i had 27 dwellers.

my explorers were dead but i revived them and i noticed...Spock found a rusty flamer 15 damage rating!

i pulled a legendary T51a power armor +3 str +1 end from a lunchbox

and a combat rifle 12-14

i put the power armor on the powerboy closest to the vault door

i pass the shotgun around to whomever needs it to fight roaches. i have not encountered any "murder" roaches, they all go down in a few seconds with the combat shotgun.

when you have a single room, no more than 1-2 roaches ever attacks. its much easier than the 6-8 that can appear in a big room.

however, at 27 dwellers i began to have trouble with food and water drain.

i built training rooms as fast as i could and trained my lowest stat guys up to 5 while holding out as best i could, then i rotated them into the rooms and put the others in training up to 5.

my explorers brought back some outfits, so that helped.

the higher stats slowed my drain, but i had built more rooms and now i began to have power problems. I went into the red and couldn't get out, I was unable to power my training rooms. My explorers had to help out with power production to stabilize long enough for my powerboys and girls to all train up to 5

i try to be mathematical about it,

i keep a 2:1:1 power:water:food ratio at all times.

i have 1 dweller in each room + an additional 6 training strength and +4 each on perception and agility

once i had a guy with 5 on their relevant stat in every room,

i had another orgy and went up to 40 dwellers, to unlock more training rooms.

i had collected a few more lunchboxes but i was saving them, i wanted to accumulate 5 before opening them.

with each population explosion, i have a race to stabilize resource drain again, plus it's a nightmare to organize, rename, reassign 13 new dweller babies to their roles in life.

i now have a sciencegirl and the rest are on production or training for production.

i have easily quelled any incidents by passing the combat shotgun around. the flamer is on my door guard for raiders. sometimes i forget to unequip the shotgun and it's a panic looking for who has it during a roach attack.

i wanted the luck training so i made 10 more babies +1 accidental, brining me up to 51.

more birth assignments, i now began to assign people to become Radioboy/girls for later. i did not build the radio room yet, as i will not be using it at this time and it just adds power drain.

i finally accumulated 5 lunchboxes and i opened them

I got Legendary dweller Threedog! 9 charisma and great all around stats. i have him training luck

i got legendary X-01 power armor +4 strength +1 perception +1 endurance

another blue dweller with a greaser outfit

another blue dweller with survivor outfit.

Kickass was my other survivor outfit, i actually decided to take it off him and put the x-01 power armor on him.

one of my explorers brought back rare clergymans outfit(it looks like the pope)

the greaser guy and survivor guy...i did not like their hair, one was gray the other was make pattern bald, so i renamed them and reassigned them to production, and took their outfits. their boosted stats help a lot.

now, i am at 54 dwellers

i have 20 powerboy/girls,

10 each water and food

4 radio people in training 2 boys wearing greaser and clergy, 2 girls in nightwear and lucky nightwear

1 sciencegirl

2 gate guards

and 7 explorers

because of the blue dwellers i demoted, i decided to handpick and promote the 2 girls that had the best hair i liked the closest to my own hairstyle(black hair bobcut with bangs, obviously i don't really look like my avatar, that is Gwar Woman)

one got renamed Femaiden, the other one is named after myself (undisclosed)

they have low stats so they are currently training

while spock, shadow, kickass, professor, and threedog are in the wastes.

all in all, this vault has been much easier to maintain, my first vault was kind of a mess and there was lots of frustration do to misunderstanding of the game mechanics.

I still believe the devs meant for us to merge the production rooms and fill them with guys, but this setup works too. i get lots of caps from luck bonuses because i'm collecting resources fast and frequently. i always have enough to build and upgrade and break rocks when i need it.

i may tell the story of Vault 666 : Freshman Hell, in the future...
