Purchasing Room Layouts With Caps

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 7:21 am

I have recently started playing Fallout Shelter on my Ipod and have been enjoying the game despite my device not being able to handle the game in it's entirety. My vault limit has been capped at having only 18 dwellers because if I exceed that number I am unable to play the game because my device can't quite handle all the movement. I would like to see what the rest of the game has to offer but I am stuck with the room layouts available to a player with 18 dwellers. I think this could be easily remedied by giving me and other players experiencing the same problems the ability to bypass the population restriction by purchasing the room layouts with caps. I don't at all think that this would be unreasonable from a game design standpoint and it would let more people play the game at a somewhat more complete level.

As it would require more memory and its bad enough at the moment where that is concerned, its a no from me.

I don't believe memory would be much of an issue if all that had to be done was delete an older less efficient room in favor of one of the advanced versions; the memory used should be relatively the same. Granted the total space the game uses on your device would increase slightly to accommodate for the added text and functionality of a mechanic like the one I suggested, but that is something that will continuously increase as time goes on and more updates come down the road anyway. I mean sure if you continued to add more and more rooms the game would respond negatively and be slower, but all that you would have to do is delete the old and replace it with the new like I stated earlier.

I'm not quite sure why so many people are voting "No" to having an option that helps people who don't have as powerful of systems. It wouldn't interfere with what is already in place, it would allow some of us who are less fortunate to experience more of the game. I don't see a negative here.

why not an option, or the ability, to choose at the options menu, a video quality, for ex: low, medium, high. And that would fix the issues for all devices, since the possibility of RAM usage can also be lowered with such an option

Just what do you hope to accomplish with just 18 dwellers? You are pretty much at a dead end even if you can replace your power generators with nuclear reactors, etc.

Yes, the Reactors, Gardens, Bottling Plants and Purification rooms are a little bit more efficient, but not so much that you would be able to reduce the number of rooms you already have dedicated to power, food and water production. Your vault population is just too small to gain any significant benefit from the additional room types.

To give you an example: A three room, fully upgraded power plant will generate 49 units of power. If you intend to replace that with a reactor room, you will need a three room, fully upgraded super reactor to match that. Yes, you get more power but in order to get the 49 units of power you are replacing you need a three room reactor. You just cannot do it with a two room, fully upgraded reactor.

Just out of curiosity, how much memory do you think that would save.

Many of the problems (not all) being experienced are cause by having 512MB of RAM and not 1GB of RAM.

In that half gig that people are having problems with, resides more than just graphics. Most of it in use is program code.

An iPhone 5S, so you tell me. Then also tell me why within the forums I also see people complaining on issues ranging up to an iPad Air 2 or iPhone 6?

Tell me why within the forums I also see people reporting that the are NOT having issues.

Your scenario assumes that all crashes are caused by lack of memory. If that were the case, then everyone with 512MB RAM should be crashing at about the same point in game and everyone with 1GB of RAM would be crashing at a different point in game. THERE WOULD BE NO EXCEPTIONS!

Yet, this isn't the case. People are crashing at different points in the game and some people are not crashing at all. There is something more in play here than just available RAM. Perhaps you can explain exactly why we are getting such varied results from only TWO memory models.

its called a program that may have not been developed properly. and as for RAM, its initially like short term memory, with more Ram comes more possibilities. yet with people who have more RAM, they have their problems connected with around 100 dwellers or more, while those with 512, are of 50 or less

so it doesn't matter if there's just TWO different models, there's just a problem with the program/app, now whether you wish to assume the whole group as those who aren't having problems as THOSE who have more RAM, then you're mistaken. if you actually did read the forums, you'd find people with an iPad 1 whose game hasn't had problems, while though with an iPad Air 2 who has

and as for possibilities, I've seen mines crash when there were more rooms than dwellers, and another save when there were 4 times more dwellers than rooms, so yes there is the possibility also on RAM, and on the amount of things processing within the game based on the amount of actions being taken at a moment. and I've seen it with other game apps in the past, depending on quality and the amount of things being processed, a game to work better or worse

and by the way, the iPad 1 had less RAM than 512MB, and according to the individual who posted, he had less than 30 dwellers, which is the possibility why his hasn't crashed yet or as much as others

Thank you guys for your insightful responses into the issues seeming to cause the wide range of fluctuations in performance across so many different systems. With that said I definitely agree there should be a setting to reduce the amount of movement in the game for players with older operating systems. This game has been such a success that I see no reason why Bethesda wouldn't want to make it more accessible.

If my results are of any implication I would imagine there would be a sweet spot in terms of the amount of dwellers one can have without suffering from as many performance issues. Like I stated earlier 18 dwellers seems to be the ticket for me, but I wouldn't mind having the option to have more at the cost of degrading some of the visuals in the game.

You are just proving my point.

Of course there is a problem with the application. I never said there wasn't. But doing what you suggest would only delay the onset of a problem and not correct it. I am not saying they shouldn't give graphic profiles as you suggest, but I am saying is that it will be an exercise in futility unless they first fix the bug or bugs that are the actual root cause(s) of the crashes. If it was just RAM as you keep insisting then nobody should be able to get to maximum allowed dwellers, yet people are filling their vaults all the way.

It is not just matter of amount of RAM. It is also matter of optimization and good QA. There are many mobile games that are much more complex and graphic-intensive than FO:S but runs decently on 512MB iphone. Full-fledged RPG game on iphone like Infinity Blade comes to my mind.

Just dev didn't put enough dev resources in devloping this FO:S as Fallout 4 advert, which was not supposed to make money to cover development cost. They didn't expect it to make 5.1 millions revenue just in two weeks.

Since the game is making so much money I don't see why this idea wouldn't end up being implemented. Options are always a nice thing to have in games.

I've got to remember to turn my radio station off because I keep getting new peeps. I am up to 137 atm. It's really funny though as when I scale all the way out the animations stop and it looks like everyone is skating. This is on the iPad Air 2 (tried it on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S but it crashed like crazy).

Oh and the real reason I have so many peeps is that I keep accidentally moving boys and girls into the dorm and they end up getting it on when I don't want them to.

Edit:Oh yeah... moral of the story is that while iPad 2 and iPad Air 2 almost sound alike, they sure as hell aren't anywhere near alike. The game really pushes the hardware for some reason. Roll on the Mr Handy release.

There is no point in letting player spend CAP or pay money for permitting more dwellers on old hardware.

The reason devs limit the number of playable dwellers on old hardware is purely technical one in the first place, that too many dwellers will make game practically unplayable on such old machines.

So unless devs improve performance of this game on old machine drastically, it is meaningless to permit more dwellers on old machine, regardless of paying CAP or not.

But it is quite possible that devs spend more time and effort (and money) in improving performance of this game on old machine. So that old 512 MB iphone/ipad will be able to support 200 or more dwellers in the vault, running smoothly without breaking much sweat.

Now FOS makes big profit, so devs can afford spending time and money for improving performance of FOS on old hardware. It will extend official support to old 512 MB iphone ipads, and open opportunity to earn even more money from owner of such old machines.
