You don't know how lucky you are because guess what, my top 10 stat all across the board dwellers have yet to receive a legendary weapon, just a couple rare weapons. Good luck and thanks for the response.

I would say 60 hours in the necessary threshold

i should also not this dose not mean you will score a legendary, but I have roughly 35ish dwellers out exploring at a time, and most find their legendary gear withint the first hour or two and others maybe not until near day 3 or 4.

Roughly estimating odds at being 1 find in 500 hours explored.

my experience of exploring and this is with 50 dwellers out in the wastelands.

Rare items show up about 10%.

Legendary .5%

So you need a lucky dweller and a dweller long enough to fill up his 100 items. It is a matter of quantity. Collect a ton of junk items, like at least 200 and you have a chance of getting 1 legendary.

I like to call them legend-RARE-y.

Thank you for the feedback. I concur on the term for legend-RARE-y!!! It's interesting because so many of my other friends have received Fatman's and Mini-guns within the first few hours of gameplay whereas I just received a Rusty Gatling Laser (my strongest thus far) upon my 3rd week of play. My Legendary weapon acquirement has seemed to progress chronologically by weapon power. Anyways, looking forward when I will join the ranks of FATMAN vault dwelling ownership. On another note my 10 stat across the board dwellers seem to have equal chance with my low level dwellers at getting guns such as flamethrower, rail rifle, combat shotgun, gauss rifle, etc... Will update once this is tested more in depth (about 1 week away from having 70 total dwellers at MAX 10 STAT across all stats).

I agree that the 60+ hour mark is a good target ... the National guard depot event occurs around 60 hours (60+15 or so) ... I don't get great weapons or outfits from every hit but you can definitely get legendaries if you keep at it ... I have 40 maxed SPECIAL explorers that I keep on continuous cycle ... I am currently purging any weapons with minimums below 8 for my dwellers and my explorers have weapons in high teens and 20s ... my most recent find in the depot was an enhanced Gatling LASER for low 20's damage ... there is a Mr. Handy event at 100 hours but there is no indication you can get an item there ... the other fixed events occur at 20 and 30 hours (diner and gas station) ... they only can produce rares but I have gotten some decent weapons and outfits from there ... if you are just trying to keep your folks busy then send them to 100 hours (which will max their inventory), until they run out of STIMs, or until they die (maximum resurrection cost is 1000 and they will typically have lots more money than that)

Excellent feedback and very much appreciate the constructive experience sharing for all fallout fans! Thank you Kbrickley and others for sharing on this topic and would love to hear anybody else's experience/tips on the matter. One question/concern I do have in the matter of exploration is how many explorers can one put out at a time before the app seems to slow down to the point of being unplayable or is this a concern at all?

I am at 39 currently (out of a full 200 dwellers) ... I think this can be device dependent though ... I do get periodic crashes but they just require a restart of the application and aren't recurring (yet) ... I have an iPad Air retina (one gen back) ... I plan to send out my next maxed dweller for an even 40 explorers (I have them in rotation so they come back and go out immediately again with 25 STIMs and 3 Rads)

Excellent! I too will also provide feedback once I have my MAX 70 in rotation (about 1 week left). Thanks again.

Will be interested to hear ... I have 127 maxed SPECIAL dwellers currently but most work in production rooms to generate resources ... I may try to send out more than 40 after I finish staffing my next couple of production rooms ... having enough high end weapons is my biggest gate for explorers (I prefer to send them out with min 15 damage weapons or higher, if possible) ... however, my next batch of returning explorers have some more good weapons to replenish my stock and I have a large number of dwellers on their last SPECIAL increase ... currently I have 88/139 for weapons and 74/90 for outfits

Interesting. Curious, is there a benefit to having a MAX ALL STAT dweller in say the Nuclear Reactor room over a Dweller with MAX STATS on only Strength and Luck (which is the way I have all of my vaults within the given stat/room match)?

Not really but once you reach a certain point in the game there is little to do but buff and explore .... since I was unsure if Bethesda would add more end game content I figured I could use the time to buff my dwellers (not much else to spend money on other than building rooms) so I started my buffing in early July ... having all maxes does help the Wasteland explorers though so I figured it was better to max everybody (also gives you flexibility to move folks around for a resource surge) ... I did start out with just their main stat and luck but rotated them out for additional maxing as my crowd of all 10s increased ... since I have been in buff mode for awhile I have often called my vault the Crossfit Vault :D

AWESOME Kbrickley!!! You have given all of us true fallout role players something to aspire to. I believe I will start to do the same as well. Thanks! ;) .

Enjoy ... having all maxes also makes it easier to complete the move 10 dwellers into a matching room objective since you can just build a new room and move people into it (since a person with 10 is always matched to the room) ... just as a large crowd of explorers makes the kill XX monsters in wasteland objective a breeze (I usually close that objective in a few minutes)

For sure! It's fun being able to end pesky objectives quicker as we get our vault stronger!

I noticed that my explorers never seem to use their Radaway. Maybe because they all have max Endurance. Has anyone noticed their explorers always returning with all their Radaways? I used to max their Radaway load but now only give them 3 which they don't use.

Has anyone noticed a best weapon or is it purely based on damage? Wondered if a fast lower damage weapon (plasma rifle) might be superior to a slow higher damage weapon (flamer). Also wondered how much Agility might interact with weapon use like it does in Fallout (more Action Points = more shots with weapon). I also wondered if area of effect weapons might be superior for base defense where you fight a mob vs exploring where I only see fights with individual opponents.

.

Based on observation on guards fighting aginst raiders, I think that weapon speed is just for show/animation, so only weapon damage matters for combat effectiveness.

Just got my first dweller to the 60 hour mark (National Guard Depot) exploring the wasteland and was rewarded with a BB Gun.

It is random ... I get nothing at all most of the time ... but I have also gotten my two most powerful weapons (Gatling LASERs) there also ... once your dwellers are powerful enough to get that far there is little penalty (other than time) of letting them go ... they do come back with a fair number of rares as well from general exploration (which is why I am almost finished purging all weapons with less than 10 damage from my 200 dwellers)

I have 3 radio rooms (3 max upgraded with 10+ CHARISMA/LUCK - 6 dwellers each) that I mass send low level untrained people from and let me tell you, I have received a power armor, gauss rifle, railway rifle, and the coveted rare Legendary Wazer Wifle! Funny thing is, it usually was within the first 10 minutes of exploration! Just another tip to ponder!
