Deathclaw Survivor Story

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 3:24 am

Just a couple of days ago, my vault was trashed by death claws, I started with 73 dwellers, a lot of them with guns and armor, and mostly 100% happy. That day was going great, until a group of 3 death claws decided to come to my vault. When I saw them approaching my base, at first, I thought it was a few raiders, until I saw the armor they had on. I sent my strongest person up, with my strongest weapon, the hardened fat man. It only took seconds to bring him down to 1/4 health. I used all 35 of my stim packs trying to keep 5 others alive, but it wasn't enough. They made it down to my 5th floor doctors office, before they were killed. After that, I tried to rush a room for materials, but it failed, giving me radroaches, and killing my population down to about 32 dwellers. I let the roaches do their thing, and they ran away after 45 seconds. My vault was thought to be dead, but I did NOT GIVE UP! I went to the vault, moved dwellers to proper rooms, and destroyed the other rooms that I didn't need. My vault is still rebuilding, slowly, but my dwellers are now surviving. I had to remove corpses that I could not revive with caps, but my vault is safe, for now.

I just had the DC attack this morning, but fortunately I already had Abraham Washington and Star Paladin Cross (both armed with Enhanced Fatboy, and mini-gun from lunchboxes). Armed the other guys with shotgun, assault rifle and some military fatigues. Two of the DC's were eliminated in the first power room easily, and the other one move in to the other power room. Later got away and got killed in the diner next to the Power Room.

I think that vault layout really helps and we should arrange according to the DC attack-patterns.

Good job on keeping the vault alive!

Now, if you want to avoid the dreaded DC attacks, just keep under 50 (or 60 not sure yet) dwellers and you should be okay. They will only attack above that number, so get everybody trained and armed so you'll be ready to go over that number..

Good luck!

Vault layout helps (you mostly want layouts where DC's move through each room once, you usually don't want to force them backtrack and fight dwellers in the same room twice), but correct endurance training helps much more.
