Please Moderator look at this

Open letter.
Firstly may I say I do not hate Steam.
Please would it be possible some time to have a poll that you could show Bethesda.
Could it possibly just be something like 'would you like to also have the option of non steam activated physical copies'
I know it was part of the poll you guys did, but everybody was so you hate/ blah blah.
The sad thing is that anyone voting is already online.
Maybe you could remind them that there are millions out there with internet issues. Not Steam issues per se.
Could we not find it in our minds, to be able to open them to anything not in our own little comfort zones.
I'm sure that of those millions, 100's of 1000s of them are gamers.
If we can show Bethesda before it is 'too late' in dev. time to make the difference, maybe just maybe they will have a look at it.
I am sorry that I made a thread to ask, I am not familiar with the system yet.
Thank you.

Moderators have zero influence over these things. And even if they did, begging gets you nowhere in life. If you have a problem with Steam, take it up with Valve or Bethesda Softworks. There's nothing to be done now though, I'd assume that the two already have a deal set up that binds them to their decision.

If you really play PC games but don't have an internet connection, I suggest that you get with the times. Digital distribution is the future, and like all advancement, it will only be nice to you for so long before it kicks you to the curb when it's tired of waiting.

Begging does too get you somewhere in life, it gets you into the homeless shelter and a few quarters.

Polls are user-created. Want one made a certain way? Then make it.

When Half Life 2 was released, I purchased the boxed, collectors edition. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that this new fangled Steam thing required the Internet and needed to download over 200 megs of updates. Especially since my dial-up connection at the time connected at about 23kbps.

I took my computer to work. Plugged it into sweet, sweet broadband. Let it update. Ran it, then played from home using offline mode.

Now, with a reliable high speed Internet connection, Steam is the best thing that ever happened to me.

All I'm saying is: Don't be upset at the advent of Blu-Ray players just because you don't have a high definition television.

Don't get angry that your horse-drawn-cart isn't allowed on the Interstate.

Even if you live way out in the middle of nowhere, and your bathroom is an outhouse. You can probably still get dial-up, and that at least will allow the game to authenticate the one necessary time for you to play it offline to your hearts content.

then these people should realize that beyond the initial authentication, you do not need to be on Steam in order to play games that use Steam. put it on offline mode and play the game without caring. if you're concerned about patches, disable auto-update.

honestly Steam is a complete nonissue with internet connectivity unless you're trying to download things on it, which you shouldn't have to do if you buy it retail (which will clearly always be an option).

Can't the Moderators make a poll with a suggestion that they think has a guideline for op's?

Wow!!
I am not begging. I don't know about IM
I have aol.
I don't hate Steam.
The whole point of the 'request' thing was to not have a ping pong game of You don't know how great Steam is/You don't know how lousy every one else is!!
Shucks guys. You don't care about any one else in the world?
And I'm a newbie. I don't know how to do a poll.
I don't even know how to 'speak' to a Moderator.
I thought Moderators help us and keep things from getting out of hand on the threads.
And one of you said they took their computer to work to .....
What about people who can't
Most importantly, why can't we be a voice for the people out there who don't even know the things we see and hear here?
We love the ES right?
Are there NO white knights out there fighting for folks who don't even know they are?

Then use your AOL connection to authenticate your copy. Log off. And play offline for all eternity.

Even AOL is capable of that much.

Step 1: click "Start New Topic"

Step 2: On resulting new topic page, click large button labeled "Manage Topic Poll."

Step 3: Using the simple form this brings up, add the desired questions and responses.

As opposed to making threads about how somebody else should do it?

Sorry, but that's a terrible attitude, and also a bleak future because there will be plenty of people kicked to the curb when digital distribution makes it prohibitive for them to get the game.

There are plenty of us that simply don't want the rude and intrusive nature of things like Steam, especially when their "offline" modes really aren't as "offline" as people seem to think they are. Try blockading it with your firewall sometime while in offline mode and then you'll see what I mean.

I have personally witnessed "offline" mode throw up a warning screen saying the game was not accessible until the internet connection was restored. There's zero excuse for things like this in sandbox games.

I've also been witness to two people who had hiccups in payments for stuff they wanted to download from Steam which caused Valve to summarily brand them thieves and cut off access to ALL of their Steam-locked games. Valve turned a deaf ear to both of them when they tried to make good on the payments. Some sort of bank error or something, and Valve only relented when I advised both of them to threaten to sue over it.

If this is the future, the curb is looking mighty inviting.

You seem to be way more experienced than me. Title and stars and all.
I did go to the make poll thing. I just seem to hover there. It's not that I am not prepared to stand up and be counted, it's just that I feel it is too important to mess up.
I am not a techno phobe, have hd and all those things. I just don't think I have the rep. to do something so important.
I truely thought the Moderators were the best people to handle it. I feel that maybe I was completely misunderstood in what I was trying to ask.
Scary that even just this suggestion/request has brought such hectic response.
Surely indicates it needs to be handled by someone without a percieved vested interest.
They seem to automatically assume I am too-stupid-poor-village idiot for even thinking about asking the developers to give fans a choice.
It's just that I see posts saying Bethesda do actually 'listen' to fans in this thread.
Sorry that I don't exactly understand what the Moderators do. They just seemed pretty powerful to me if they could stop things when they get heated. :blush2:
I mean seriously, what about all the other fans out there. They can't vote. I just thought some of us could maybe be 'big' enough to speak for them -- or not. Democratically.

We just keep things running smoothly. :)

There is an ongoing topic about Steam - please check through it and add your comments there. Thanks.
