What is the point of the Republic of Dave?

Post » Thu Jul 01, 2010 3:06 pm

I can understand the quirky fun of Andale -- and isn't it just the sweetest community you've ever been in? -- but why the Republic of Dave? I can't see what I'm supposed to get out of it. My first time through I killed all the men (to leave the women to care for the kids) and took whatever there was of value but I wanted to try not to do that this time. But I don't see a real point to it.

There's supposed to be some kind of quest to help Dave with the election, but other then that there isn't really much to do in that settlement. I think the developers were trying to mock how egotistical many government leaders can be by having a guy name his "country" after himself, and showing that any idiot can make his own country in the wasteland if he has a small handful of morons willing to follow him. Also the settlement itself makes fun of governments in general: "You will cause me Mister President or I will have you executed! But we're a free country because we're a Republic and allow people to vote!"

You don't get the Republic of Dave. The majesty of the Republic of Dave Capitol building? And what of "President Daddy", if he thinks you are ambassador of the wasteland and if the wastelanders are respectful enough he might deign to annex them.

And have you taken the tour of the Museum of Dave. I think that's possibly the best thing in the game!!

The Republic of Dave has more points than the Dunwich building and many other places in the game.

It's great. Like the Kingdom of Tom

What's the point of random encounters?

It's just fun, or funny. Same with Republic of Dave, the name alone. It's also conceivable that some crazy guy would want his own little piece of land and end up naming the thing after himself, and runs it like a government to fulfill a personal little fantasy.

Oh the fun times I've had at The Republic of Dave. Once I led a Deathclaw in there and watched it kill Bob and chase the kids into the Wastes. They never came back. Another time I locked a Giant Radscorpion in the town :twirl: I've killed Dave and taken his wives for myself. I've banished poor Dave from the Republic. There's no end to the fun you can have there.

+1 to the tour of the Museum of Dave being the best thing in the game. I helped Shawna collect Dave's historical artifacts to add to the museum's glory so future generations of little Daves can learn of the greatness that is/was Dave.

Why the Republic of Dave?....ahhh for the  of it.

There is another side quest you pick up in Underworld that takes you to the grand RoD

lol I wish I could do something like that in the Vanilla game. Look at how Dave, Eulogy, and Dukov have a cool set-up with a lot of hot concubines who flirt with them and treat them like a king. I wish my character could have that, at least Eulogy was kind enough to lend him Clover. :P

well if you still have time to burn you can let dave win, or the other candidates win. I find this side quest just a quick extra. Nothing much of a meaning for me.

The point is that he's a delusional, misogynist, polygamist cult leader, who also somehow is extremely fertile despite a life of living in a radioactive wasteland.

I admit I am sad that my in-game NPC namesake is one of his wives, though. Ah well, she can be part of the MILF faction, too :P

I think if the world really was blown to pieces by nuclear bombs you would see thousands of Repuplic of Daves coming up everywhere.

Now, that's interesting...and maybe in the Fallout universe where they never had a feminist movement, at all, ever.

Personally, I thought it was hilarious. Pointless, maybe, but how is it any more pointless than dismembering a body completely (which I'm sure everyone has done at least once).
