Radio Station could be more useful

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 12:55 pm

Hello, I have been really enjoying your game, thank you it has been really interesting so far I am looking forward to see where my vault will go. Anyways, I havent been able to figure out why get a radio station, most of the dwellers that show up are mediocre, I am currently leveling 2 characters to max charisma and luck to see if that improves the coming dweller stats. Also the happiness is not worth the increase in invasions either. But what bothers me is that dwellers don't gain xp, to me it makes a lot of sense that they are working at a Radio Station and gain XP just like the dwelers at the Power Plant. It svcks to just have to enslave dwleres to a place that they wont gain nor XP nor SPECIAL skills. Well, thanks for reading and I am sure the coming patches will address most of our complaints, also looking forward to Fallout 4 will there be a way to interact between the two games?

Absolutely agree with your points.

The disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

And no, raising charisma to max and wearing nightwear don't invite dwellers with better stats.

After patch 1.1 that brought deathclaw, Radio Station is not only useless, it is considered harmful to the vault. It attracts Deathclaw and increase case to open vault door to bring in useless dwellers, which attracts deathclaw too. Never ever build Radio Station. Period. Happiness boost of dwellers does not matter much. Radio Station does much more harm than benefits to safety of Vault.

I disagree with the sentiment of never building one.

Only build 1 and make it 1 wide.

Never staff it unless one of the following two situations arise.

your happiness is either dropping below 90% and you need the +10% resource increase.

or

You get the objective "Raise x dwellers to 100% happiness." With high enough charisma you will simply immediately complete the objective.

You should keep a 10 charisma dweller on hand to staff it in these scenarios. But it should never be staffed for very long in these scenarios.

I personally have a 3 wide, fully upgraded one. I keep it unmanned but if there is an incident in there when I rush people in there to deal with it the happiness of the vault incresses while the incident is being delt with and if I get a little extra resources while the incident is being contained that's a nice bonus.

Mine is full sized and fully staffed.

Lots of deathclaws and I enjoy watching them crawl in to be utterly wrecked by my front line defenders. Hehe!

Too bad they dun drop any loot tho. :(

The maximum number of items they can carry is 100. After that they won't pick anything else up.

Thats why ive banished all Radio Stations from my vault. Not worth the risk of getting unwanted attention to my vault, specially from deathclaws.

It makes sense. Operating Radio Station itself is quite harmful, but we need it occasionally to do the happiness related quest. But it should be kept to minimal required. We should not oprate it normally.
