OMG Wiped by Deathclaws

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:25 am

2 DeathClaw attacks in under 30 minutes and my whole vault is WIPED!!! Waste of $15 dollars to buy the handymans and lunchboxes. I'm glad people are hacking this broken ass game for free boxes and caps.

We've all been thru this phase. I've had 3 deathclaws appearing within SECONDS of each other. Ouch.

Revive the right people, reorganise your strategy and get your revenge. watch those deathclaws die before you know it.

While the game has its bugs, it's not broken, and actually needs a certain amount of management skill to play.

And if you play well, there is actually not much need for lunchboxes in late game. Those people who are hacking it are actually depriving themselves of the enjoyment of seeing their vaults suffer, prosper and prevail.

I've never actually suffered as badly as a lot of people claim to have. I think the worst attack I had was when I didn't have enough stimpacks after sending 4 people into the wastes. I was cocky and rushed stimpacks to send additional people out, when I should have rushed to defend from the inevitable deathclaw attack that will likely follow after sending people out.

There are a good deal of strategies to survive and thrive against death claws. If you build a string of single rooms at your entrance, it makes defending MUCH easier because your dwellers won't be running around like idiots. Easier to stimpacks 2 dwellers at a time, rather 6.

Besides, why would you quit over a loss in a video game? Aren't games supposed to be challenging? Who the heck expects to ALWAYS win? You need to become skilled at the game you play before you can expect to play flawlessly. You just haven't reached this level of skill yet. Keep trying! Back in the day, we had to pump quarters into machines that only gave 3 lives per quarter. You got it easy, kid.

It's not a pay to win game so don't expect to pay and win. I haven't purchased a single lunchbox, I don't use save editors or time glitches to gain unlimited legendaries (aka welfare legendaries), and yet I've succeeded at the game despite all the fuss over the supposed difficulty.

My complaint is that it's TOO easy.

The challenge for me is to go into a game that has microtransactions and find strategies to beat all of the content without a single purchase. If i can "beat" the game through skill and strategy alone, then I purchase all of the content. I done that with many a microtransaction game, PvZ 2 included, which people also complained was too hard. Its not that it's too hard, it's just that there are is a vocal minority of self entitled gamers with no sense of challenge therefore no skill, who think they can buy their selves to victory. Maybe that's how it works in some games, but honestly, those games aren't worth the time it takes to purchase all the content.

I think it boils down to attention span. Most mobile gamers have no patience for trial and error and/or strategy, instead, they are more likely to only appreciate instant gratification.

I'm not a pay to win person. If I do spend money on a game it's either out of convenience or necessity. I actually did not spend any money on this game for the first couple of days but got annoyed with having to tap on production rooms every 2 minutes so I bought some handymen to make it easier. While I was at it I decided to buy a few lunch boxes just for the thrills. Didn't get anything good anyways.

I'm just pissed because I was doing fine all along with the difficulty. It was fun and challenging but not impossible. Then all of a sudden with no warning there is a difficulty spike that completly ruins my game and having to start over. Losing money was just an additional kicker. They need to fix the sudden difficulty spike with Deathclaws. Bethesda can't expect everyone to read through every guide and faq out there to know how to avoid getting killed by sudden deathclaw spikes before playing the game for the first time. Some people, like me, like jumping into the game and figuring things out for theirselves.

Sounds like they belong in Tenpenny Tower. Now we just need to convince the ghouls to move in with them. ;)

No one told me how difficult Dr. Willy's or Bowser's castle would be. But after days and days of losing, I became so skilled at the game, I could practically do it blindfolded. Same thing with dance dance revolution, which took me months of practice, building up my physical endurance and pattern detection to succeed. Or vanilla World of Warcraft when the boss encounters were total mysteries, weeks, months of failure before the bosses were farmable.

I don't understand your perspective because it is contrary to the very foundation of games. Do you quit chess because a chess master beats you? Do you know how long it takes to become proficient at games?

Calm down, strategize. You don't need guides to win, just brains and the proclivity to overcome hardship.

I emphasized the text quoted.

This... is valid criticism, especially if you were doing just fine before the update. The games learning curve was disrupted with the sudden inclusion of content that directly impacted strategy.

Hi, (1st post in history for me)

No, you just need to keep your vault under 60 dwellers to not be affected by DeathClaws, and strenghten your vault before passing up this number. I'm at number 56, and hear so much cry from more crowded vaults that i intent to put 6 killers 10 SPECIAL in the first room after gate before passing over 60.

Have fun!

That's great for people like us who strategize.

It's awful for casual players who have no idea that the deathclaws come at that point.

There's no hint that it will happen. It's like an atomic bomb being dropped to a casual player who doesn't scour the web for information.

And who is this game aimed towards? hardcoe gamers or casual players? I'll let you figure that out on your own.

Well, if it isn't the hard old boys thrilled by Fallout 1 and 2 in its glorious days, it is the Google generation. Hence googling instantly when encountering a problem to have solution or information given. And what do we have on 1st link proposed by Google when typing "Fallout Shelter Deathclaw"....

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Deathclaw_(Fallout_Shelter)

  • Deathclaws will begin to attack when the vault has 60+ dwellers

Congratulations you proved my point.

By the time they are googling it it's already too late and you've hit a difficulty spike that wrecked your vault.

You now read that to survive this cataclysm you should have been endurance training since level 1.

All of your dwellers are basically gimped and will never recover.

Sounds like excellent game design for a casual crowd http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?s=9b561955667918373a98321c5183f647&&app=forums&module=extras§ion=legends#

Yep, my point exactly. Just poor/lazy game design by Bethesda. They couldn't make the game challenging enough and instead of making the game progressively harder or adding creative ways to challenge a player they were like "hey let's just add overpowered deathclaw spikes at 60+ population to completely wreck players."

Its even worse than that for some users who have breached the 61 dweller mark before the update (iOS users, I believe). They didn't even get a chance.

It is actually extremely easy to find off Death Claws with the right methods.

On the first floor of your vault, build 5 consecutive rooms, but don't build an elevator.

Put 10 of your highest level dwellers with the best weapons in these rooms.

With the absence of the 2nd Elevator, the Death Claws essentially have to fight your best dwellers twice.

No Death Claws have ever reached the second floor of my vault after I implemented this design. (After I lost half my vault due to 2 consecutive Death Claw attacks of course.)

I was at 60 people for two weeks, then just went past to 61, ten minutes later I got a deathclaw attack. I was afraid of them for so long. But really it wasn't bad at all. I had two level 10 guys die, they made it past by first wave of defense and died instantly in my second wave.

I was expecting much worse.

I'm not saying that I have a hard time with deathclaws, its that some people didn't have the same opportunity to adapt. Imagine getting to 100 dwellers without a clue, all the while investing in some lunchboxes, and finding yourself unprepared.

We were prepared. Others didn't get the chance and it was of no fault of theirs.

I just hope that future content wont be as callous.

DCs are easy with low level dweller and stims, several threads on here with various set ups to kill them off before they ever leave the top floor, I just put one in another thread above.

I never read any guide and i also had my bad moment against DC's.

Aftet theur first attack, i decided to improve my stimpack storage and keep a healthy reserve of caps to revive dwellers in case of consecutive attacks (which happened when I decided to try out radio station). 3 attacks within seconds. Just like you. Gladly, the upgraded stim storage was enough, and so far I had only 2 casualties from DC's.

Let me repeat it, I didn't read anything about it. If i had a lot of people dieing, i would have taken the challange to rebuild, instead of complaining.

I totally agree with the guy that, like me, experienced dr wily's castle withou knowing what he was going after XD

What do you guys mean by three consecutive attacks within seconds? Because every time a deathclaw attacks, it's three if them. 3 consecutive attacks within seconds would mean 9 deathclaws, which is crazy.

I second this question. This has never happened to me. In fact, once I get attacked, I can open the door as many times as I want till I play again. This is with a fully upgraded and manned radio room.

Maybe I can find something on YouTube that shows this.

It literally means that. Mere seconds after a dc attack and another one starts up, total of 3 attacks.

Not gonna lie, i was Very very pissed off. Now however after shoring up my defences, BRING EM ON!! LOL
