Dealing with events by lots of low level dwellers

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:34 pm

Short: Just keep your average dweller lever low and even Deathclaws do no harm.

Longer: Because of the HP\Endurance link I created a new Vault and didn't level any dweller (or tried to, as the level up arrows overwrite most other options). Now I have 66 badly equipped dwellers (because I can't send them out without leveling automaticly). Events last quite long because I upgraded all rooms once and killing stuff with fists takes time. But I haven't lost a single dweller. Even at level 1 they take like 5% damage from 3 Deahclaws. They even killed Deathclaws with their bare hands.

Same with everything else. Raisers still come in groups of 3 and carry swords. They never make it past the 2 entry guards. Fires do no damage at all. Same with Radroaches and Molerats. Rooms that don't level your dwellers (like storage and radio) are suddenly good to have.

Now i'm thinking to downgrade my main Vault as well. Letting 5 guys level to 50 and let the rest stay at level 1.

The worst thing happening in this kind of Vault is the arrival of a legendary or rare dweller.

Has somebody else tested this already?

I tested this strategy and it works. It is quite irritating to avoid the level up prompt but doable mostly.

Now Raiders, Radroach, Molerat and even Deathclaw does not pose serious threat any more. I didn't upgrad any room.

Recommended.

After knowing that this strategy works, I feel being betrayed by Bethesda. I feel being deceived.

We player generally assumes that leveling up makes defending enemy easier. But on FOS, it is opposite. Leveling up dweller makes defense harder because ememies get stronger than strength dweller gains.

I understand need to scaling enemy strength according to players level. But even in such case, the scaling should adjusted so that leveling up make defense easier, not harder.

Yet another broken game design of FOS :(

You are onto something. But I think attacks are also tied to the room's level. On my highly upgraded top floor, it costs six 10E warriors half their health to quell a molerat attack. I cringed with horror when molerats invaded an un-upgraded training room of Level 1 noobies. One gunshot and two seconds later, molerats are dead and noobies are cheering. Go figure.

I think room size is only affecting the events HP. (Meaning dwellers take more damage because events last longer.)

Room level seems to affect HP and DPS. I believe it's a multiplier. Because if you have only level 1 dwellers in your Vault they take no damage in rooms of any level.

I haven't really tested the formula. These are just my basic observations. With a level low enough there is no damage done at all.

PS: Am i the only one who regrets upgrading his Vault door? The raider events take the same time as Deathclaws now because the raiders can't break in fast.

As long as you can handle invading enemies without moving defending dwellers to top floor, the upgraded door and the time to prepare defense is not needed. Whole invasion event just take more time. So now I don't upgrade vault door for new vault.
