Molerat Proofing Your Vault

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 7:23 pm

Are molerats eating into your budget? Tired of constantly losing power to the little rascals? Well, worry no more!

With Vault-Tec brand elevators, molerats become a thing of the past! Just line your vault with them and laugh as the little pests fruitlessly attempt to dig their way in!

That's a good tip, what about the ground and top floors? If you block off the right and left edges of the vault wont they always attack from bottom up? And if you build an all elevator top and bottom floor, will you never get molerats or will they appear in the elevator and disappear?

What about spawning molerats when you fail a room rush?

Ground floor connecting to the vault door has to be entirely elevators. They don't spawn in the door area, so that's safe. Doing this trick gets rid of them entirely. You never have to deal with them again, as far as I can tell. I did this a few days ago, and haven't gotten a single molerat, whether it's random or from rushing.

See, rooms have to be touching dirt in order to get molerats, but elevators aren't dirt. And elevators don't let creatures spawn inside, so they essentially act as molerat insulation.

This very expensive tactic does not work.

Mole rats still occur from rushes and if you have a gap/space of any kind between rooms or have an unoccupied room they can still appear.

I created a small area at the bottoms of my vault for testing and still got mole rats.

Had several rooms, 1-3 wide, two entire levels surrounded by elevators.

Left a gap, big enough for an elevator to fit, mole rats.

Filled the gap and rushed, mole rats.

Keep all the rooms unoccupied, mole rats.

Best way to keep mole rats out? Guns.

This occurred to me too, but why take out a game feature? It's like the idea about never leveling anyone up, why would you make an easy game easier? Just to screw around I guess, which is fine. :ermm:

Are you positively sure about that? Thus far I've had zero infestations. It went from an almost constant threat to nonexistent. I'll keep testing, but from what I've seen it works.

Edit: You put in the stipulation that there are gaps between rooms. As in...DIRT. Of course they'll get in, you have rooms touching dirt. I just rushed all of my outmost rooms in my vault, resulting in over twenty failures (because apparently a 20% failure rate really means 75%), and not a single one has resulted in a molerat attack. Beyond that, did you have elevators to the diagonals of rooms? That might have something to do with it as well.

I'm afraid to say I've gotten molerat attacks (not failed rush attempts) that have happened in the middle of my vault with no dirt touching at all.

I can confirm it works. I proofed myself about a month back.

Haven't seen a molerat since.

If any room is touching dirt on the interior then you're gonna have problems.

My rooms dug into the depths of the vault for storage still see molerats but it doesn't spread to my main vault.

It works. IF you have molerats you're doing it wrong somehow.

They don't for me. Something tells me you somehow did it wrong.

I just completed the objective put out 20 vault fires by rushing a room in my vault about 50 times repeatedly.

Never saw a molerat once. Just radroaches and fire.

I'm afraid about doing this. Well, you know, it takes a good amount of caps to do it, what if Bethesda updates the game and takes this feature (cough.. Glitch.. cough) from the game? That would be surely a waste.

But i'm afraid about Bethesda not updating this game. So, see my dilemma here?

Caps are cheap in this game after a certain point and especially if you're running a ton of explorers.

It would make for a big design change in vaults though if they patched it..

On a related note, sort of, I tried something with one of my vaults. I stacked a number of elevators like a chimney leading far below my vault and put all the rooms I dont use down there (residences, store rooms etc). When incidents happen down there, I just let them spread. Fire, molerats or radroaches, they cant get out of the area. Rooms not touching other rooms (other than the vacant ones deep down below).

Nothing can get up to the main vault areas.

Useful way to not have to worry about incidents in vacant rooms simply by grouping and isolating them.

This works! I lined my vault with elevators and my mole invasions are down to nill. I still have my base rooms exposed to dark soil, but they only get raided in a blue moon. TY!

DONE!

1st group is production.

2nd group is is training rooms.

3th deep down below, are storage rooms.

I have 70 dwellers, left some space between this group of room and wait for update.

It took me over a million caps to finish.

Is there a different way?

Before I finished the vault, training rooms and storage I kept separate. So fire and rats, would not spread.

And this is my vault. Sorry, I'm very bad at image manipulation.
