So, been playing this game for a few days now and I started sending people out to get some stuff. Had my one of my good people out for 13hrs and just now recalled him, is it safe to go to bed while they're being recalled? Will they still be able to die if say they made it back while I was asleep and just standing outside. Or do I need to be on to collect them so they don't die?

Yes, it's safe to recall them; they wont receive encounters and radiation damage while traveling back to the vault.
