Not sure how much longer Ill play after this awesome new update but ill ask anyway...

What is the point / attraction of legendaries?

Is it just bragging rights / collection obsession?

As far as I can tell the stats are horrible in a min/maxing game like this.

For now, the Legendary dwellers don't provide more substance other than their collect-ability.

As for the game itself, I consider it a casual game and not that one should fuss over min/max-ing. Don't get me wrong, you can do it, but don't expect a huge payout.
